Never fails. I download Euro Truck Simulator 2, play for a session or two, they needlessly update the nearly 10 year old game, and break it again.
So I delete it. Again.
At this point, I'm just going to delete it from my steam library. What a regrettable purchase. I hate steam's forced update of single player games.

I find it very telling how many people are suddenly way more ok with apple intelligence than with ms's ai attempts.
Some of this is logical - apple has clearly done more effort to not look stupid - but none of what apple has done has moved the goalposts.
There's still no real use case for this technology.
Nobody on this planet requires gen ai emojis to survive.
AI recaps don't meet human needs.
We don't need our overpowered devices to offload compute any more today than last year.

I used to really suggest Tidal frequently because they were better for artists than Spotify, if you were into the streaming thing.
Unfortunately, as of today they've retired their Roku app, adding that to their graveyard of supported platforms (along with my digital audio player, my living room hifi streamer, and my tablet)
So I'm left with just my phone (since if I could use the web client, I'd already have access to my media).
Guess I'm done with them.

Ubuntu is a terrible excuse for a server OS, and ads have no place in tools like apt. Literally taking an upstream tool from Debian and adding ads to it.

On totally not game related topic -
I have pretty nasty arthritis brought on/intensified by covid. Some days, like today, I can barely bend my fingers and have a lot of general joint pain.
It makes it hard to do 3D modelling, move, even do basic stuff like drink coffee. I generally manage with a lot of advil and some workarounds.
One thing I absolutely can't do is practice my bass. So what I do is listen to my 'to-learn' playlist a lot and work on my ear.

Google really hit 5/5 for me today. Demanded I install the stupid Sony headphone app. I installed it, it couldn't connect to Internet, so it wouldn't start, just the eula lock out screen.
Verified it had network permissions.
Uninstalled, went to rate, can't review/rate.
How the heck do we only have these two crappy mobile options anymore?

You might also find "The Art of Computer Programming" by Don Knuth interesting

You might also enjoy GTC, which for the last several years has had a free online attendance and is focused pretty heavily on GPUs, CUDA, and applications for them

@npub1ekn…2g2y MELVYL was a computerized mainframe based digital card catalog, to my understanding one of the first (and one of the last around).
It was amazing, and it had every single book in the entire UC system in it, so you could effectively find so many details about books, order them for loan, etc. Over 30 million records.

I felt a deep and personal sense of loss when MELVYL was powered down. It was the authoritative card catalog for my university life, and I continued to use it looong after because I often visited university libraries for reference and general reading.

@npub16mz…hm5n For your use case, academics, I'd suggest a trad notebook unless you have a course that gives you PDFs or something that you can do annotation on with snote and similar tools.
For mine, I use a 10" tablet and stylus since my work involves multi-person editing and loads of screenshots, URLs, voice clips, etc.

@npub14yq…rfl3 @npub1f2s…9pgz Yes, one of the giant pile of issues that resulted in us leaving for Godot was that in order to make a player collider that was *not* a fixed gravity oriented 90 degree capsule like a human required you to either
a) rewrite your own multiplayer everything from scratch or
b) add colliders hanging off springarms and rotate the mesh, but not the player.

I've been hard at work on implementing the complex mission system for #SmugglersOfCygnus on @npub1ede…nsaa.
A few thoughts about this same system on #UE4 vs #Godot:
* Dictionaries are *excellent*, and I prefer them as a data structure.
* UI code is so much easier than UMG. Just... so much.
* I'll take a simple text dialog system like Clyde over an over-complicated visual dialog any day. My missions read like a screenplay now.
* The actual logic was virtually straight transfer, bugs and all.

The unity complaints are annoying to wade through, but are also literally why we pivoted off Epic's UE 2 years into development.
When a company moves the goalposts on your livelihood, you realize you're in their power.
That gives you a really simple choice.
We made ours, now the unity folks get to make theirs.
