The first time a third-grader confidently told another student that they didn't have to worry because "Ms. Harris wouldn't ever let a bad guy come in and get you," I understood that I would actually die for my students and that it was actually a real possibility.
Do you know what it's like to be underpaid, often disrespected by other adults (just look around threads for examples), exhausted, and know that you might have to die for the kids you're responsible for??

There are a lot of problems with insomnia but one of the ones that’s not talked about as often is how incredibly boring it is.

Water sports were extremely overlooked in Petaluma but also what that meant is that no one ever knew when the swim team was having a meet or where it was so if everyone in one particular class got on board, we could convince our 5th and 6th period teachers to let us out early “for the meet”

My nephew is named after my dad. So imagine our surprise when a few years ago he decided that he, the nephew, was going to be known as Thomas Senior and my dad, his grandpa, was Thomas Junior.
The funny thing was that everyone in my family, including my dad, has just rolled with it and sometimes my dad calls his grandson just “Senior.” 😂

My exercise class helps keep me me sane and slightly less depressed; I go 3-5 times a week and it’s just a one-woman thing, she teaches all the classes.
Just got an email that her husband has COVID. She feels fine and is testing negative and is going to do class with a mask but wanted to let us know.
I always wear a mask anyway but what now? I want to keep going but I shouldn’t, even with a mask, and I’ll have to wait at least another week if she doesn’t get it to make sure.

Hello everyone has COVID again and wearing a mask may be a good idea! It’s ok, even if you’re the only one in a setting and it feels awkward.
It seems to be less severe maybe but 1. Why take the chance 2. Long COVID is still a thing no one wants 3. It’s always more fun to be not sick than sick, even if it’s mild!
Oh and if you don’t get it you can’t spread it and you don’t have to feel guilty about getting other people sick.

Let me be the first to say that the US does a shit job of enforcing the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and that lots of things are not accessible.
However.
Every time I’m in a country that doesn’t have any equivalent to the ADA, it is super noticeable how some people just have to stay at home forever, all the time, because they can’t do anything because nothing is accessible. That is the case here. I don’t see how anyone could navigate anywhere in Mexico in a wheelchair, for example

I work with a family—twins and their cousin but I see them separately because they have very different needs—and we're taking June off for various things so they gave me a thank you note (and a monetary tip!) today.
And THEN, when I walked the last of them out today to be picked up, all three adults and the other two boys were out front and they gave me a STANDING OVATION as I came down the stairs because all three boys like writing now and don't call themselves dumb any more and now I am crying.

The Castro tour today was so good. I learned a ton.

Ok so I have a mystery.
I got new AT&T fiber internet on Friday. It worked fine until I woke up this morning, no internet.
The very nice tech came out and said that someone had actually rerouted my line to the apartment downstairs. Like taken my line that I just got installed on Friday and made it into the line for the Apt downstairs.

I mentioned the firefighter funeral I went to yesterday... the guy died by suicide after a lot of PTSD from the job.
I didn't know him well, as I mentioned, but I have known and loved other people who died by suicide and...
there's just no grief like grief that comes after a suicide. None. Nothing.
It is a totally unique type of mourning that I don't wish on anyone at all.
And again, this was an acquaintance I really liked, not a close friend, but it's still really overwhelming, the sheer tragedy of the whole thing. And I don't want to make too much of a big deal about it because I don't need condolences, his friends and family does.
But maybe we all need condolences because it's so heavy that someone who has the entire East Bay mourning for him felt bad enough that he couldn't go on.
