@npub1su4…a0dw They still haven't solved the problem with scar tissue buildup. I really don't see soft-electrodes working out without a completely different approach to neural interfaces. All these methods still don't have a long-term expectancy and it's honestly immoral to subject people to it unless absolutely necessary.
Sometime back I read about successful gene therapy for making neurons photo-receptive and interfacing that way. That seems much more humane.

One huge potential drawback to account portability that I'm concerned about is the risk of dodging moderation.
Depending on how it's implemented, it has to be in a way that it respects blocked users as well as subsequent response pile-ons.
Instance portability is great, if it works and respects consent. Otherwise it's gonna turn into harassment hell.
It's one thing I've observed while learning how federated servers do things. KBin and Lemmy have had huge growing pains with this.

When many hear "#decentralized" they unfortunately associate that with crypto and there already, based on that incorrect first impression, you've lost a lot of people.
I've been trying to get my mutuals over to the #fediverse but instead they tend to pick #BlueSky which could as easily follow a similar path of #enshittification as #Twitter.

@npub1su4…a0dw US congress voted to limit funding to a cap of the initial budget estimates or have it canceled. Updated current estimates I've heard by project scientists is approximated to be vastly higher of the projected costs. If it had leeway like the James Webb telescope it may have been realistic but right now it's looking grim and without additional funding any sample return could be dead in the water. 😕
