I really don't see soft-electrodes working out without a completely different approach to neural interfaces. All these methods still don't have a long-term expectancy and it's honestly immoral to subject people to it unless absolutely necessary.
Sometime back I read about successful gene therapy for making neurons photo-receptive and interfacing that way. That seems much more humane.
