I have realised after living with PR for 16 years that hard right parties are almost universally terrible at actual governing.
They prefer to snipe from sidelines without facing compromises of being in government. Sometimes letting them have some power is an effective safety valve against further gains, given people can judge them on actual performance.
But you also need to have very robust balancing civil institutions too. And people need to care about their own democracy.

I'm frankly amazed and cheered that the Green party achieved 4 seats, and almost 2 million people voted for them.
These are not protest votes in the way Reform votes have been either but genuine conscience voting choices.
Still, that Greens and Reform get 4 seats each, given Reform had twice as many votes and, more telling, as do Plaid and DUP with less than a tenth of the green voters numbers, is telling when it comes to #FPTP.
Imagine what they could do in a #dhondtPR system?

Do you know about snapplanet.io? I've been playing around on it at the breakfast table, keeping an eye on the #Greenland #glaciers I have instruments on and it's just struck me again how mindboowing it is that I can download and process *on my phone* and for *FREE* a world's worth of high resolution satellite images from #ESA #Sentinel2. The future is amazing.

TIL about the #Tvind wind turbine, by visiting the site, which is not far from our #PolarRES #ECR bootcamp. It's actually an astonishing story and an incredible feat: a community with no major know-how or backing decides to build a wind turbine and ends up building the then largest wind turbine on earth, and likely the first multiMW turbine ever.
It's still working too. Quite an inspiring story, even if some parts of the organisation have layer come into question.

Was describing #Linux to a friend and happened to mention most of the internet is built on it, which naturally also led us on to the XZutil moment we had earlier this year. And which he, a well-informed person, had never heard of and was shocked to hear. I guess most people here know about #XZutils attack but I discovered @zetlandmag@bird.makeup have a very nice summary (in Danish, DeepL works well) which I'm sharing again here for those who don't.
