Signal doesn't have any support for using more than one account. One of my friends said that's the reason she can't use it and has to stick with Telegram.
For me personally, I also find it objectionable that it has to be downloaded from the Google Play Store. Google and privacy are an oxymoron. There should be alternatives available, but it's not even available on F-Droid. At best, they have some kind of hacked solution with an auto-updating APK.

I was just told this funny design fail story by train driver Stefan on Youtube.
The newly renovated train station in Delft is built in a tunnel, with four tracks each in their own separate tube. Going fast in a single-track tunnel creates a lot of overpressure, and trains have now been ordered to slow down to 120 km/h before entering the tunnel to reduce it.
It turns out that immediately after opening the tunnel, the sudden gust of wind was pushing on the revolving doors at the entrance to the station upstairs. This made them spin faster, and people were struggling to get through the doors.

These days, CAPTCHAs on websites seem to use AI-generated data. I've gathered that they actually use the user's input as part of the training data.
I do not consent that my mental and physical labour is used to train someone else's AI for free. What can I best do to poison their dataset when trying to solve these in the future?

I'm a longtime Mint user, and perhaps somewhat of a power user, but not to the extent that many of my Linux friends are. I absolutely acknowledge that Mint has its own flaws, and I'm definitely open to suggestions for alternatives. But there are some barriers for me to consider as well.
First is the amount of effort needed to learn a system that works differently from what I'm used to. It can be a significant mental investment, and also a potential source of frustration when I'm not able to get things working exactly the way they did before.
Second is the amount of ecosystem support. I've noticed that *if* a project offers pre-built packages or repositories, they tend to be for Ubuntu. The value of Mint's Ubuntu compatibility is really not to be underestimated, despite being a copy of a copy.
I realise that I'm not a first time user so I'm not really the target audience, but for me to recommend something I need to be familiar with it myself too.

I just finished playing through FixFox, and what a wild ride that has been!
It's a pretty simple and easy-going puzzle game at heart, and with "primitive" pixelated graphics, but the game manages to be so incredibly expressive with that. The storytelling is so charming, the characters adorable, it put many smiles on my face as I played it. And the story is engaging and kept me wanting to know more. The ending... just wow.
Without spoiling too much of the game, you encounter some really captivating themes:
- Space travel and sci-fi!
- Transhumanism and animal gene splicing (furry TF!).
- The struggle for acceptance in society, related to the above.
- The dangers of unchecked AI serving corporate interests.
- Even a subtly hidden trans character!

Fedi is geared towards broadcasting one-off messages out into the world, sharing funny, interesting or important things. You get interaction, but sometimes it feels shallow, and less meaningful to me. You only send each other messages of a few lines every once in a while, and never have a proper conversation.
There are many people I'd like to get to know better. Followers and others I encounter here regularly, that seem nice and I'd like to chat with. But I can't because Fedi just doesn't work that way. :blobfoxworried:

I'm having a mysterious problem with #linux #rsync that I wonder if someone can help me with.
I'm backing up my main filesystem onto a USB backup drive, using the command:
rsync -av --delete --delete-excluded --stats --exclude-from /home/rua/rsync-exclude /home/rua /media/rua/externalhd/
The --delete and --delete-excluded options are *supposed* to delete stuff on the backup filesystem when they are no longer present on the main filesystem. But this doesn't happen, instead they are left in place and accumulate. Which has me very puzzled and wondering what I'm doing wrong.

I have a few in my home that I could consider easter eggs:
- The light in the toilet has pawprints on it. Who ever looks up in a game?
- A poster next to the stairs, appropriately displays Relativity by Escher.
- A cat sculpture hiding on top of my bookcase, about to playfully knock a ball off the edge. (It belonged to my grandmother :blobfoxhappy: )

After just reading about it, it seems that it's because of the events in the US that started it all. A protest for workers rights on 1 may 1886 got violently repressed. In 1888, the federation of workers unions commemorated that event by striking, on 1 may. So the modern "day off" is kinda like an officially sanctioned strike.
