almost every journo I’ve seen who respond on social media to people asking if they care about the results and how it will impact people, almost all of them insist that they’re just doing their job to present or expose the truth, and nothing else, and if anything, the readers should look at the parties and among themselves. It’s like they’re trying to wash their hands off of the outcome of their actions.

As if it needed confirmation, data shows car sales in Indonesia barely grew month on month from May to June and in fact dropped nearly 20% year on year for the first quarter of the year and the market contracted 33% in Java and Bali between 2013-2022 according to Astra International and University of Indonesia.
Cars are becoming too expensive to buy while income per capita hasn’t grown to match. Restricting car age in Jakarta to 10 years starting next year looks likely to boost sales.
A new law prevents cars older than 10 years to be registered or driven in the city starting 2025.

Americans should be terrified of Project 2025. It seeks to strip basic human rights from citizens and turn the country into a fiefdom with no checks and balances.
It shouldn’t matter who the candidate is from the Democratic Party, every American citizen who still wishes to have rights and freedom should not want this plan to materialize in any way and work to defeat anyone in favor of this plan. The goal should be to ensure this doesn’t materialize. Whoever the candidate is, the entire party should hammer the points of that plan.
In any reasonable period, this plan on its own should have been enough to convince voters to vote against it and against everyone in favor of it but we’re living in one hell of an “interesting time” where not only will people refuse to heed warnings, they won’t even believe it after it happens to them.
It’s not just about stopping Trump, it’s stopping the entire engine, caboose, and everything on it from reaching their destination. Failing that, 1984 won’t just be a book and a movie.

the only successful separatist movement was Timor Leste but I can’t recall what level of pushback there was among the public after Habibie granted the referendum and accepted the result.
Having said that, only Papua and Timor Leste were annexed. The others have always been part of the country since the formation and fought together in the independence war.
Actually, I shouldn’t have said Sulawesi because that separatist movement was much wider and started in Java

the talk shows and academic discussions at campuses that featured Russian-leaning scholars, the military advisors and experts, the state owned corporations with strong Russian ties, it’s all over the country. Even the CEO of my former workplace here flaunted a meeting and interview with the Russian ambassador. I was disgusted.
The Ukrainian ambo barely had room to state his position and case between ‘22-‘23.
Our supposed paper of record, Kompas, along with their TV channel, spewed Russian talking points and what I can only describe as Russian propaganda throughout the height of the invasion.
Many Indonesians see Ukraine as a separatist state that’s historically part of the Russian Empire and Soviet Russia. They drew parallels with Indonesia’s own separatist movements in Aceh, Papua, and Sulawesi, most of which were crushed or reigned in, with Papuan separatists being the only remaining force.
It did not help matters that Zelenskyy is not only a Jew but an Israeli supporter.

It’s too bad that Pew did not survey Indonesia or maybe they purposely avoided the country for this report because they’ll likely find that there’s an incredible amount of vatniks in this country, especially in the academic world, most likely even more so in proportion than Malaysia.
At the height of the Russian invasion, pro Russian opinions dominated Indonesian campuses, TV, media, and social media.
It would have been useful to have some actual measurement of the pro Russian sentiment in this country, for once.
The people idolize strong and decisive anti American leaders, or at least ones who appear as such. It’s why they also idolize Türkiye’s Erdogan and willing to look past his “problems”.

Brain Cipher announced that they will release the key to the locked Indonesian data on Wednesday for free and out of their own volition. They don’t expect to get paid but leaves a wallet address up just in case anyone wants to.
They also apologized for the disruption caused by the ransomware.
The Indonesian government has been in turmoil following the deployment of the lockbit 3.0 variant ransomware in mid June, locking more than 90% of the data stored at the National Data Center which disrupted various major public services including immigration, passport processing, educational funds disbursement, tax processing, and more.
