A little flock of grackles descended on my yard, and while I tried to get shots of them, I noticed this unexpectedly speckled creature, my best guess is that they're a juvenile European starling. And, apparently, a friend to common grackles!

There are a couple of crows who stop by my yard most afternoons, and I've been trying to get some pictures of them for over a week. They seem shy though, or probably more accurately and reasonably they just don't trust me. When they spot me they fly to higher branches, and never seem to stay very long when I'm outside

I know logically that birds move around and just because one was in one place one day doesn't mean it will be there another (unless it has a nest), but when I was at a park a couple of days ago the Merlin app picked up a northern flicker's call and I got the briefest glimpse as it flew away, and now I've been desperate to go back there just on the off chance I can find one again...

Today's outing was genuinely so nice, I really wasn't sure how much my low end 75-300mm lens was going to be capable of when it came to birds, and today convinced me I'll still be able to get really nice shots as I learn more even with my ancient entry level DSLR and a couple of kit lenses
