In the 2024 election, I am a single-issue voter, and that issue is climate. The Biden administration's climate and decarbonization policy isn't enough, not yet, but it's been tremendous, and is still ramping up. Whereas a second Trump administration would demolish the EPA and double down on fossil fuels.

I don't have any clever conclusion, other than I don't have the option of being pure and principled and not voting. Detroit city limits and certain inner ring suburbs are safe, but beyond that, lower Michigan is militia country. There are a lot of people in my state (hell, there's the Nazi on the next block) who want to kill me. I am also Jewish, did I mention that? If Trump wins, he will endorse and legitimize their violence. And if you think you will escape, you're deluding yourself.

I have undiagnosed PMDD that got steadily worse as I got older. The year or so when I was trying to get on T, before I actually got a prescription, was hell. I had a lot of panic attacks. Half the time I was just disassociating. T made me feel like a real person again. I can't face going back. I would do a lot to keep access to this drug. I would take risks. And because T is a scheduled drug, I might end up in prison for it.
I hope this doesn't come to pass. But it could.

Every trans woman with the means is stockpiling E. (I'd do the same but it is literally illegal. If I have too much T the government will assume I'm going to cheat at baseball and put me in jail.) Other folks are making plans to leave the country. I don't have any money or any particularly valuable skills, so the best I can come up with is "illegally emigrate to Canada." It's, like, right there. You can see it from downtown.

More and more trans people are fleeing home states that are unsafe, have bathroom laws, are trying or have succeeded in banning HRT & other trans healthcare. Today at work I trained a woman who arrived in Detroit from Texas three months ago. If it weren't actively dangerous to be trans in Texas she'd probably still be there. My manager and her partner would still be in Kentucky if that state weren't dangerous for them.

I don't think many cis people truly understand how bad the climate is for trans people right now. I live in Michigan, which is a safe state. Every trans person can name the safe states, is either glad they live in one or trying to get to one. By "safe state" I mean one with reproductive rights, expansive nondiscrimination laws, where trans healthcare is legal & it's possible to change your documents without too much hassle. These are all blue states, naturally.

Ever since the Amazon warehouse opened in Detroit, I see their trucks making deliveries at all hours, even late at night. There is no reason a person should be delivering packages after 9pm. Whatever's in that box, you cannot possibly need it that badly. I never did do much Amazon shopping. @npub189n…satx Traverse City isn't exactly podunk nowhere. It's a resort town that's become a lot more gay-friendly in recent decades. The question is, will the local cis gays stand with their trans compatriots against this woman, or will they throw trans folk under the bus. (I suspect that the salon owner is homophobic as well as transphobic, but can't afford to lose the clients, so she's trying out a little bigotry to see how it goes.)
