Hey uh, I know things are wild right now but as a baseline for the 401k crowd you know you have a choice on what your 401k is invested in and almost all plans have some sort of “stable value” option if you wanna opt out of the ride for a month or a year or a presidency…
This *could* mean you lose out on gains this year! Yep! Totally true.
But you can opt to get back on the ride later.
The people who are saying people generally are bad at picking when the market will go up or down *are right* but perhaps some changes in conditions are severe enough to notice.
To be fair it’s easy for me to say, I stepped out last month. It’s a more difficult question now that we’ve already started the fall. If you think we’re already near the bottom going out now would be a terrible idea.
It’s all guesses. But fwiw doing nothing is a guess too. Just a “safe” one.
I don’t know what to do. I just know what I did. Which is when these people started talking about destroying the American economy I decided they were serious and not to invest in it for a bit.

Dispensing advice more directly: if you are trans and a US citizen and don’t have an updated passport with your correct information now is the time to do some paperwork. There’s 75 days until the next administration decides how passports get issued.
It’s not just about ability to travel elsewhere (though that sure is useful!) it’s a federally recognized ID that lasts for ten years and is straightforward to update, renew, and is officially ID anywhere in the world including in our own country.

I’m a lowkey fan of IKEA’s little Fixa drill. (The 14V one—haven’t tried the smaller 7V.)
I have better drills on the same shelf but I will grab this lightweight quick and simple drill over the others if I’m drilling something small and light, like basic wall anchors.
The downside is they do not always last. Does anyone have recommendations for a good drill in this super lightweight compact category they prefer?

These new trains accelerate a lot faster than the old ones. Not because these are too wildly speedy, but because the diesel train acceleration curves were very very slow, so the comparison is stark.
Overall, these trains will complete the full SF-SJ route over 20 minutes quicker than the previous ones.

China just sent a rocket to collect samples from the moon and if we had a better world we would all see more news in various languages following the mission as a group of folks try and grab some moon rocks from the dark side yet once more and get away with it.

Not just street food but other categories as well. I would bet these two don’t really compete with each other. But perhaps that is too naive…
