Just a heads up to anyone who is in my NIP-29 groups on groups.hzrd149.com. there seems to be an issue with the groups where chachi is not showing some messages and groups-relay (the relay) isn't accepting new messages.
I think its been broken for 2+ weeks but I never noticed because when I sent messages in chachi it would store them locally even if the relay rejected them, so it looked like they sent but no-one was able to see them.
I guess this is just "early days" of nostr, but this a really bad issue to have and I'm worried that it might have killed a lot of discussion in the groups I was trying to start 😞
I apologize to anyone who sent messages in the last few weeks, but you will have to re-send them once I figure out whats going on.
The effected groups are: blossom, noStrudel, and nsite

No blossom support and not enough focus on articles. It had highlights and kind 1s. Which I don't care to have in obsidian

A rough draft of a BUD-10 for multi-part uploads to blossom servers. not sure if this is a good idea so I'm looking for feedback

The biggest issue comes from the fact that blossom relies on the sha256 hash of the whole blob. so there isn't a way to verify that each uploaded chunk is part of a whole until the all the chunks are uploaded.
I think this issue can be mitigated slightly if the client includes `x` tags in the auth event for each chunk its uploading. so that the server can verify that each chunk was created by the client.
In the case of payments, I think it could be possible for the client to pay for each chunk. although this might require more requests or the server to define an x sats/bytes pricing.

Awesome, I cant wait to test it out. I want to start writing more long form articles and I haven't found a good nostr app for that yet
although if I could make a request, add blossom images support before adding kind 1 and highlights or code snippets. being able to easily include images in the articles is one feature no nostr client has yet

My idea is that it could be built on top if the relay communication is flexible enough. most nostr libraries build the auth, limitations, and connection policies at the "new WebSocket()" level, but that makes it difficult to add additional types of behavior that a different client might want later
For example you could implement a relay blacklist at the websocket level so that it would throw an error (or make it look offline) if the client connected to a blacklisted relay. or you could extend that relay pool class to ensure it never even tries to connect to blacklisted relays. all of this is just a theory though, I still have to put it into practice to see if it works

The date based pagination that I initially wrote in BUD-02 for users to list "their" blobs on a server is pretty useless. So I want to update it to either offset-limit or cursor based pagination. I've been told cursor pagination is better ( since we have unique ids ) but I figured it wouldn't hurt to get more feedback
Also does anyone know how we could implement negentropy sync on blossom servers? the `upload` date is different on each server but the sha156 is the same across servers

I love how simple this is, probably wouldn't be hard to add to blossom in a backwards compatible way since it uses the PATCH verb
The only thing I'm worried about is I don't know if blossom is the right protocol for "large" files, if people start uploading 10Gb blobs then it might get difficult to copy / move those blobs to multiple servers

no, right now the whitelist feature is somewhat limited. you have to add `pubkeys` to rules and then enable `requirePubkeyInRule` on upload or media to enforce the pubkeys

Please rewrite the github issue without the snide remarks...
The existing v0.42.0 version is using nostr-tools and custom auth handling logic. there aren't any checks if a relay needs auth before making a REQ so it probably keeps spamming REQs while its waiting for the user to approve the authentication
The next v0.43.0 version is using rx-nostr which has checks if relays require auth. the auths still have to be manually approved by the user (or auto if an option is enabled) but this should at prevent the app from spamming REQ while the auth process is happening

There is something called Subresource Integrity, however that only ensures the files after the HTML haven't been tampered with, so still possible for someone to deploy a malicious version

The client creates a new key and puts it in the URI with some metadata, then the user can open the link in amber and it will ask the user to create a bunker.
Then when the user gets redirected back to the app the connection should be ready

Although it looks like this app is using https://www.npmjs.com/package/window.nostr.js which is just as good and maybe better suited for an app like cashu.me

The issue is hashing the feed, whats the standard way to turn an XML file into a string? do you take the whole file or do you format it in a very specific way?
If you take the whole file as a raw text string, then it becomes invalid as soon as you add the signature to it because you've changed it. and if podcast apps where smart enough to remove the signature from the XML file before verifying, they would have to be specific about what they removed. because one missed char or white space and the file will be invalid :(

That's a signature of nothing though. sure the pubkey signed that event but it only proves that they signed a k:33333 event, it doesn't relate to the feed at all
For example I could easily copy that feed, modify it, host it on my own site and say its your feed

If your building a new kind of nostr app then pick a new kind of event. even if you change it in the future its not a big deal since there aren't any users yet and you don't have to worry about migrating data
For example I built https://github.com/hzrd149/cherry-tree a while back and used the kind 2001 since no one else was using it
I have a feeling most new devs default to kind 1 since they can easily debug it. or they are experienced nostr devs use kind 1 for "discoverability" ( so it shows up in the social feed ). either way I think the only solution to this laziness is to track down the dev and make them use their own app till they realize how bad the UX is

If you wanted to have signatures in RSS feeds you would have to introduce a standard way to serialize them and get a hash. and unfortunately the word standard and XML don't mix 😅
And yeah, I want to see a lot more integration before we attempt to replace RSS with nostr. there is a ton of ways nostr can help RSS without replacing it.
for example I think @npub1l2v…ajft mentioned NIP-84 (highlights) could support highlighting mp3 files. so it could be used to create a nostr native podcast clip that could be shared and commented on

The key difference is what you mentioned, the signature. It allows Nostr events to live everywhere since thier authenticity is proven by the signature
RSS does not have this so it relies on the domain to prove its authenticity
Besides that the are functionally the same, except that RSS has a long proven track record and 10x more integrations than Nostr
That said I don't think the solution is to just copy RSS into Nostr, or replace RSS with nostr. There are ways Nostr can be integrated with RSS without replacing it and breaking all the existing RSS interactions
I also have to point out that RSS is XML, which any self respecting dev should shun like the plague :D

nsite omits the folder because they are not necessary, the nsite events are focusted on showing the latest version of the site. So keeping history would make things slower and break more

no, each nsite file is a single replaceable event with its "d" tag set to its absolute path. the nsite-manager just groups the files into folder to make it easier for humans to navigate

This is intentional, plain () are not valid in URLs and I've found that there are far fewer URLs with brackets in them then there are people wrapping URLs in brackets
for example: I really like this site (https://nostrapps.com/)
Wikipidia and some other news sites are the only ones I've seen so far that consistently use brackets in their URLs without escaping them

noStrudel should be adding nostr: prefixes to bech32 nostr tokens, but there maybe bugs in the stable version
I'm in the process of writing tests for this code in the next version of the app to ensure it happens 100% of the time. also the next version will only render embeds if they have the nostr: prefix so it should be more obvious when something is broken

It looks like the wires got crossed somewhere and its adding theNIP-65 tags to the kind 1 events for some strange reason

There is on one perfect way to get a users profile or relay list.
Most if the time the client asks the relays its connected to, but it can also be setup to know about special "lookup relays" like https://purplepag.es/

I'm guessing it doesn't allow redirects because then there would be know why to know if that user owned the domain
Either way I find it odd that a lot of other nostr clients just show the NIP-05 as "verified" without checking

Started tinkering with a new project that I'm definitively going to need some help with. but the idea is to build a simple static file manager for nsite stuff
The goal is to allow users to easily login with the various keys they use for their nsites and manage relays, blossom servers, and the static files
Really I just want visibility into an nsite, to show the user what it is an how it works
