Over the past ~4 years as I’ve been digging into human psychology I’ve been trying to find a way to conceptualize panic attacks. I’ve talked to a variety of therapists, I’ve read all sorts of frameworks, cognitive behavioral therapy, internal family systems, the mind body connection… but I think I just found it in a book on sexual health of all things.
Here is the idea… This book walks through stress responses (as that is certainly very relevant to sexual responsiveness) and it discusses where these stress responses come from and how they function with the metaphor of being chased by a Lion. Then the author talks about self criticism and says… “you become the Lion”, and boom, that’s it!
A panic attack is this sort of downward spiral that you can’t escape from. Imagine you are in a fear state as you are being chased by a Lion… but you are the Lion. You can run faster and faster but the Lion will still always be there. ...I can feel my heart rate increasing as I type! That’s it!
And so if we have an analogy that works, that gives us a solution of sorts. Stop being the Lion.

It seems to be becoming a lot more normal for fathers to be fathers, which is just beautiful!
In the past 6 months or so I've been on all kinds of meetings where men will discuss their childcare responsibilities. They will say things like "I had to take my kid to a doctor appointment", or "that's my day to do the school pickup". I even had one guy show me his baby on a video call!!! 😍🫶

So if we want Bitcoin to be money, and fungibility is very important to money, and we want to protect Bitcoin from some sort of fungibility attack, is it perhaps a bigger risk to have such high use of large custodians? Via large custodians is of course how such an attack would be applied.
And if large custodians are a big risk, how can we encourage people to make use of self-custodial options?

If we are evil-corp or evil-gov and we wanted to run a fungibility attack on Bitcoin, would these covenants actually help us? Now this part does get super technical, but I think it helps to set as the benchmark existing restrictive multi-sig setups, say a 2 of 2.
‘Blacklists’ are pretty easy to get around, just make new addresses.
‘Whitelists’ are a bit more tricky. That is a lot more impactful, but also a lot harder to build.
The thing with recursive covenants is that they are so rigid and permanent… but does that also make them bad for implementing this ‘whitelist’ setup? How can you update your Fedcoin whitelist setup? All my thoughts on tariffs...
Protecting local industries:
While tariffs are an over all loss for the economy of a country, they can be effective at propping up a specific industries. The problem with that is then that you are encouraging domestic business to produce things that they don’t actually have a competitive advantage in producing. The classic example of this is sugar cane. Sugar cane is not produced in the States when left up to the free market. We just don’t have the optimal climate for it. We could enact tariffs which would cause US citizens to buy sugar cane from local producers. This would be at a much higher cost to those consumers, and we would suffer wasted resource from inefficient domestic production as we have encouraged American producers to spend their time on things that they aren’t actually good at. What is the opportunity cost there? What could those businesses have been producing instead that would make a lot more economic sense?
National security:
Now a common concern here is that things we need to produce certain things for safety and/or security. ‘we have to produce xyz in the country as a matter of national security.’ Two thoughts on this, one, I want countries to be interdependent, we are less likely to kill each other that way. And second, I think it would likely be far more efficient to just have a branch of the gov maintain factories that can produce xyz than it would be to distort the national economy to produce those things.
Taxes:
As it relates to taxes, yes tariffs bring revenue to the US gov, but that is still money coming from citizens. So it becomes a question of what is the more efficient way to tax US citizens, or which method of taxation distorts the economy the least? ...that gets complex, but this does not bring about a reduction in taxes paid by US citizens, it would just change how that revenue is collected and which parts of the economy are paying more.
I find the idea of switching from income tax to tariffs interesting, but, one, I have absolutely no faith that the gov would actually remove the income tax after enacting enough tariffs to cover the revenue(if we even could), and two, I think the distortion on the economy could be much worse than an income tax.
Other countries:
Any other country enacting tariffs faces the same situation. They are also experiencing an overall loss in their economy. Some places are doing it specifically to protect certain industries, and their reasons for doing that are varied. Maybe they want to grow that industry, maybe they also have some national security concerns, or maybe it's just plain corruption and the CEO of some big company's kid is married to the presidents kid and their industry gets special treatment. ...I think all of the above happens.
The motivation:
I can only guess at what Team Trump is thinking with these tariffs, but I find the idea that this is to encourage domestic production to be unlikely as these tariffs are not targeted and are very unrefined. If there is a grand plan to this I would imagine that it is either to force the reduction of interest rates(perhaps for debt refinancing), or to use as a bargaining chip with other countries.

I can “do it all” because I have a real partner.

I've heard the theory that this is bargaining chip. the idea being that the US will agree to drop the tariffs if other countries agree to buy more treasuries. And that this is a long term plan to lower interest rates, and help our fiscal crisis ...not quite sure how that all lines up, but I hope there is a plan!
But there is always the possibility that the 'people in power' are just being vengeful assholes. That has happened a lot in human history.

I’m guessing that we do not need this human form to exist, there is “something more”, but that it is something outside of time and in so many dimensions that the human brain doesn't stand a chance at comprehending it. But still, on a deep level, we know this. We all have this deep vague knowing that this isn’t all there is. This is why that scene from the Matrix hit us all so hard.

We tend to think of the world as a hierarchy, but really it’s more of a mesh network.
When you are an employee you think you are not at the top of the hierarchy because you have a “boss”. Then you open your own small business and quickly realize that you now have a dozen “bosses” and have to spend a lot of time looking for more! Then you decide to raise a bunch of money for a new business, and find that every so often you have to explain yourself to a group of investors. Unless you want to go live alone in the woods, you’ll always be accountable to someone.
Those who are at the top of one hierarchy are at the bottom of another. When you zoom out you’ll see that the world is a mesh network.

Covenants!
I dug into covenant opcodes, and the answer was so clear to me. Why? Because I have a very clear idea of what I want Bitcoin to be. And this is always the root of the divide in these debates… differences in what we want Bitcoin to be.
I want Bitcoin to be better, global, money. I don’t want Bitcoin to do all the things. That’s how we wind up with hacks like the Bybit Ethereum debacle. I’m a huge fan of permissionless innovation. If you want to go make big bets on complex smart contracts, go for it! But please lets keep Bitcoin as simple, decentralized, permissionless money.
I am harshly opposed to any opcode that enables recursive covenants. If we enable this a week later we will see the beginning of the splitting of the Bitcoin ecosystem into gov approved coins and dirty bitcoins. We will be opening up our permissionless money to be turned into permissioned money by any entity who can coerce lager Bitcoin businesses. And if you don’t think your gov will do that, well what’s your least fav gov, political party, or mega corp? What might they do?
Bitcoin decentralizes power. Those in power seek more power.

We have a big issue in our culture where we can’t seem to imagine an egalitarian interaction.

When I was first diagnosed with Hashimotos back in 2014 my Thyroid antibodies were over 800. After a year of strictly following the Autoimmune Protocol Diet I got those antibodies down to ~100.
The last time I had them checked was mid 2020 when stress levels were pretty high and they were back up to over 300.
I'm going to go get them tested again in a few weeks.... what can I do to see how low I can get them?!?! I'm already a fitness nut, so the only things I can think to do to try to get them low is increase my sleep quality and to not miss any of my daily meditations.

I don’t often call out the extreme misandrist “feminists” of the world. That isn’t because I support them, I certainly don’t, it just because at this time and place in my life I’m rarely ever around them. The man haters don’t follow me around rooms to tell me exactly why men suck, but the red pill crew do follow me around rooms to tell me why women suck. Good times.
It is important to call out the ugly when you see it, but also to be careful about how you do it. Some of these hate peddlers are very deserving of some harsh language… Tate… the ladies of The View, etc. But they won’t see your words, who will see your words are people who aren’t pushing hate for personal gain but just people who are struggling.
A lot of men who consume red pill content are just confused young men scared about how to navigate a changing world. Most of the women consuming extremist feminists material are survivors of violent sexual assault. Putting these people down or mocking them won’t improve things.
It’s always a good idea to call out horrendous ideas when you see them. But if you mock people, or whole categories of people (men and women) instead of ideas, you are just throwing fuel on a dumpster fire.

I got indoctrinated in right wing rhetoric for a variety of reasons, but in large part as a reaction to the intensity of the left wing rhetoric at the University that I was attending. I lost the faith after the 2010 mid terms when “my team” had won and got some fiscal reforms, they came out and declared victory! I was elated ...then I crunched the numbers and realized that these sweeping changes were in fact barely any change at all. I was duped by my own team.
In Chicago ~2015-2018 I worked in some intensely left wing offices. The open hatred for white men specifically that I encountered there was wild. If I hadn’t already left the political circus, that environment would have made me a right wing extremist.
These past few years, being bombarded by the red pill mania, and all the encouragement of “dunking” on the “libtards”, etc, again if I hadn’t already left this circus… or studied economics 😆, I would be busy becoming a left wing radical.
Both the lefties and the righties justify their hatred. They use different terms, but the sentiment is always the same. ‘They deserve it’. ‘They had it coming’. Etc. Lately it’s been the righties claiming that mockery is a good and effective tool for change. It is not. This behavior always leads to blow back, usually in the form of radicalizing those on the opposing team.
The only way to improve this madness isn’t for your team to win. The only way to improve this situation is to get up and leave and circus, and to encourage as many as you can to do the same. If humanity doesn’t learn how to leave the political circus we will be caught in a perpetual cycle of alternating flavors of hatred.

When I saw the 'Elon does nazi salute' headline and photo yesterday I was like, nah, seen this one before. It's easy to catch someone in a strange moment in a still photo and spin it. So like any intellectually honest person I went to go watch the video before commenting. And ya... could you do a more obvious nazi salute? I don't think I could if I tried.
Now, was it intentional? You can never know what is in someone else's mind and heart. But, if you have been living in this world with an internet connection for more than a decade, you know, you don’t say the n word and you don’t do the nazi salute. It’s common sense. Even for those with a touch of autism.
So, either Elon is a closet nazi sympathizer, or an overgrown child in desperate need of attention, or he's so out of touch with reality, and/or high on drugs, that the man really needs some help. Any way you look at it... it's ugly.

This red pill trend has been rough. It’s gotten to the point where it’s happened so many times in the past few years that I’m finding it difficult to let my guard down around men. I just keep waiting for them to launch into a lecture about how feeble my mind is and why I need to obey them.
It’s a very uneasy feeling chatting with someone while I’m just thinking “go on already, say the ugly thing so we can get this over with.” Sigh.

I heard an interesting thing the other day. We are generally scared of meeting aliens as we imagine that they will take over, or kill us, or enslave us, etc. But why? Perhaps we envision that because throughout human history quite often when one civilization met another, the civilization with the more advanced technology took over, and killed, and enslaved. Essentially we are projecting our behavior onto aliens. Maybe.
And then I saw that theory taken further. There are some men in the world that seriously resist women having any real power. They see that as the collapse of civilization, it really freaks them out. Perhaps they are projecting? Perhaps they are assuming that if women are “in power” they will treat men in the same way that women were treated in recent history. They fear that then men will have to be second class citizens treated like property.

When I was maybe 10 I was in the car with two adult women. A love song came on the radio. I asked questions about it and was told “you’ll understand when you are older… you’re too young to be in love.”
And so I waited, many years, to experience and understand the mythical love.
When I would have romantic connections with men I would ask myself, “is this love?” …”is THIS love??”
I experienced what others would call being “in love”, that wild attachment and infatuation, even addiction to another. But not one of those experiences were healthy. Looking back I can see those were insecurity fueled unhealthy attachments.
We tend to “fall in love” with people who we perceive as having what we want, or of being able to save us, or people who match our old wounds.
Often we “marry our unfinished business.” We “fall in love” with people who match our old wounds as we subconsciously try to fix the old wound with a new person who will play out that story line with us.
We are blind to what’s really going on, and we refuse to look at it by simply calling it “love”. And in our mass delusion, no one questions it.

I am utterly convinced that a leading cause of depression is inflammation.
Now there are books about this, I’ll drop some links in the comments, but also, I’ll tell you a story. This is a thing that has happened to me a few times, but this is the most recent and clear.
Wednesday evening, I’m starting to feel a bit of a sore throat coming on. I drink some water and try to get some sleep. At about 2am I wake up hot and with body aches, but I was woken up because I was having racing very dark thoughts. I woke up because I was suddenly in a depressive episode! Now this isn’t my first rodeo, so I knew what was happening and I also knew it was caused by the inflammation raging in my body. At first I tried some meditation and some breathing exercises. But it didn’t make a dent, the thoughts raced. You know the ones, “you’re a horrible person”, “nothing will work out”, “your life won’t be anything but suffering”, on and on.
When my initial strategies failed I woke my husband up and told him what was going on and asked him to help. He went and got me some Ibuprofen, I took it, had some more water, waiting a bit. Things calmed down. I went back to sleep. I woke up Thursday morning still sick, but without the racing thoughts.
Do any of you experience this at the start of an illness?

I did it! It only took 2 days of obsession, but I reached a DuoLingo Spanish score of 60. That corresponds with the CEFR level of B1, which means I'm kinda conversational... old news as I've been busy having lots of conversations for a while now 😝 But it's nice that it's DuoLingo official 🙌

Genuine question, why are there so many dudes in the world who think of themselves as “protectors”, and yet I’ve never been “protected” while being harassed in public?
Now most creeps will try to get you alone somewhere, and generally all of them will leave you alone while you are clearly with another dude, but there are a lot of creeps who will harass you in broad day light on a busy street.
Here is an example: I was ~12 on the train with my little sister. We sat down next to each other and the dude across from us was a big guy in his 30’s, drunk. He sees us, stairs, pulls his pants down and starts masturbating. This train car was not empty. About 40% of the seats were taken. All sorts of people on that train car, women and men, just sat there and ignored it while this guy masturbates in front of two not even teenage girls.
Where are the protectors?
