GM. Yeah, we decided to tie specific relays from independent operators into our clients, as defaults. Users pay us and we pay the operators. If someone wants a custom instance of #Alexandria, our suppliers help them get their custom relay setup, and they then also pay the suppliers.
That way we carry the cost, and they can focus on the administration and security. We're using relays from @npub10np…tl5h and @npub1226…grkj.
And, of course, we encourage everyone to run a personal relay as a data store, like nostr-rs-relay or #Citrine 🍋 (for mobile). That way, they have their own archive and can use the functionality offline.
It makes a lot of sense to store your #ebooks on your phone or tablet, for instance.

What I meant, is that most users' experience of Nostr has quickly degraded to the same information funnel that the Internet soon was and social media immediately became.
Making the information more free and more easily-available doesn't make 98% of users better-informed. They quickly latch on to whatever distilled set of information someone or something famous is willing to feed them.
"Doing your own research" is a character trait; the result of an insatiable thirst for knowledge and wisdom.
It has nothing at all to do with the tools available. Those tools just help the thirsty to drink _even more, even faster_.

Yes, apparently. I also thought it only worked on mobile because everything else gave me an error, but that was apparently Orbot interfering.
Amber is always on Android, but the PC client can generate a link, display it with a QR code, and then you just take a pic of that with your phone and open that in Amber, and it signs. Pretty cool.

I think the thing that confuses the debate and makes the statistics seem weird is that nobody tracks the order things happen in.
Step 1: working-class black people are married and poor, but peaceful and gainfully employed
Step 2: some working-class black people gain higher qualifications and their pay increases. They start organizing and demanding equal pay. They're going middle-class.
Step 3: white employers get upset, that black people want to get paid as much as white people, so they mass-import a bunch of poor, underqualified foreigners, to break the strikes and drive wages down
Step 4: black men are increasingly unemployed or paid starvation wages, black women stop marrying them or file for divorce and marry the state
Step 5: black area full of fatherless children, organizing into gangs
Step 6: shoot outs go crazy, so gun laws are enacted, but don't help much
Step 7: rich white people (the same ones who destroyed the employment market for black men because they're actually a bunch of greedy, lazy fucks who like having a subservient underclass) show up and demand gun laws to stop the shooting and raise the amount of welfare that black women get as a reward for being a Baby Mama because They Care About The Children.
Places with high marriage rates and low male unemployment don't need those gun laws because they don't have the fatherless children, who run around shooting people for sport.

Won't solve what's wrong with that area, tho. Marriage rate is abysmally low. Any area without a majority of the adult men being husbands and living at home with their children, will eventually degrade.
That's what did us in. All of the married black people (including myself) moved further out, and took civilization with them. That's why the neighborhoods around those areas are peaceful and have good schools and clean streets, but you drive 15 minutes over and you're in The Hell That Liberals Wrought.
That's why I'm not a liberal. Grew up staring at that dichotomy and I'm just going to believe my lying eyes on this one.

Yeah, and if you look at where the gun violence in Maryland is the worst, it's in the most tyrannical Democrat areas. Basically, Baltimore and eastern D.C., near where I used to live.

Not all emergencies are wars, but all wars are emergencies.
I would posit that COVID was an emergency, but the response was too draconian. Almost comical, in its ad nauseum absurdity. I feel the same way about remigration, but the side willing to listen to me complain about respecting due process was the same side ignoring me about securing the borders.
Either you have sensible laws and respect them, or you don't.
I no longer expect either the German or American governments to have sensible laws and respect them, so I'm increasingly indifferent to it all. I still have an opinion, but I'm all outraged-out and I'm hardly paying attention.
And I strongly suspect I'm not alone in that.

Same as with architecture/design and devops because those three things consume the vast majority of development costs.
Coding is cheap, in comparison, but it's the only part you can't completely skip and still have software.
@npub1s3h…75wz is following what German logisticians call the "Maximalprinzip" (with the available resources, attempt to reach the maximum potential), but most Nostr projects use the Minimalprinzip (attempt to reach the lowest viable goal with the least possible resources).
So, they cut out architecture, automation, monitoring, testing, and maintenance, and vibe code some ish and then do a victory round and collect the Bitcoins from some useful idiots who haven't figured out that vibe coding has no monetary value because it isn't work.
We actually have one of the biggest budgets, despite hardly any income. Easily pushing over $100k in engineering hours, so far. Building something solid takes time and costs a lot of money. It just does.

SSH, mostly. Or a list of relay moderator npubs. We don't use the company npubs for accessing anything; they're just for marketing and support, and stuff like that. It's important to know precisely which person is logging in, I think. Otherwise, you don't know who did what, in the logs, and you can't lock someone out without burning the company npub.

Not everything automated is spammy or scammy. Intent, transparency and delivery are important.
Anyone can add a "bot:true" tag to their profile, as well. I also build bots, for release notes and testing and stuff, but they're going to be labeled and our clients will display that label in the npub profiles.

This is why I think growing the overall Nostr market share -- including markets that aren't microblogging-focused -- is the primary thing.
Build tools people can use in their daily lives, and make them better and higher-quality than the current incumbents, by leveraging the decentralized and cryptographic nature of Nostr.
I don't see much growth in anything completely distributed or highly centralized, tho. They'd only be interesting for someone already using Nostr, as a "yes, we have a Nostrversion of that".

Most developers lose money, working on Nostr stuff. Even the few with grants could often make more money, for longer, elsewhere, and lots of us work completely unpaid or even pay to work (because of running costs exceeding contributions). I doubt this will change, in the near future, but that's why we're almost all keeping other sources of income.
I think this is just an effect of the small market size, tho, and might eventually change, so being "in" early and just suffering the loss might be an investment.
It's massively strangling the pace of development, but maybe that's a bit of a feature, not only a bug, as the solutions slowly arriving are often better than the original ideas. Or maybe I'm just trying to rationalize my 70-hour work week, at dumping wages. 😂🤷‍♀️

We have a separate set of regression tests on the test DB.
This is to create events to test changes we make to the structure of that DB, or to test interfaces with the DB, or to check events that failed on prod (from support), or for the devs to use in their unit tests, or to create events that we can present to the customer during the requirements phase (they can then check, if our event could be processed on their side).
We've been using an Excel Sheet and a complicated bash script and manual editing of the resulting events before, but that is really sluggish and slow and the test data isn't very realistic.
The entire SuT is being redesigned and rewritten and migrated, so this is my chance to scrap the whole test system and start over more "smartly" because they're giving us a corporate ChatGPT account, with the rewrite.
Seems like an ORM+AI is the simplest implementation that could work, for all of those use cases.

Well, they actually depleted their stocks with this war, so they could spend trillions just restocking, for years.
It's not going to be sufficient, tho. The economy is too sluggish and exhausted. Nobody wants to take on credit, just to build things they can't sell, and they don't have the workers to build it all, anyway, and the customers are dying off.

I know they're printing crazy amounts of money, to stave off the inflation, but that will just crowd out private investment and cause the economy to run even colder, not hotter, overall. Expect asset and consumer goods/services prices to go down 📉, as the "Strohfeuer" (straw fire 🔥) they are igniting quickly burns out.
You cannot solve a collapsing economy and a shrinking, aging, lazy demographic of people who don't breed and can't read, by throwing more money at it. That money has nowhere to go.
