Washington just became the 6th state to pass an electronics Right to Repair law! A quarter of Americans are now covered by electronics repair laws.
And they also passed a bill for powered wheelchairs! That’s a double win for repair, and a big blow to manufacturer control.

A cracked phone screen doesn't mean you need a new phone! Instead, choose #repair or refurbishment—it's better for your wallet, and the planet.
Repairing will refresh your device, but when you do replace it, remember to trade it in to somewhere like Back Market. We published our teardown of the succinctly named "MacBook" a decade ago. This 12 inch laptop began what Apple called "the future of the notebook," with USB-C, the butterfly keyboard, and soldered-down storage.
Thankfully the butterfly keyboard is dead, and we now get more than one USB port, but soldered storage sadly persists. That's a shame, because MacBooks have otherwise become more repairable over the last ten years.

Yep, the Switch 2 Joy-Cons will probably still drift because Nintendo isn't using Hall effect sensors. So, if you were thinking about upgrading, it might make more sense to swap out the joysticks in your current Joy-Cons. It's easier than you might think—and a lot more affordable.

This is the underside of the Mac Studio's power supply. It's easily accessible, and gets removed right after the bottom cover, making replacement convenient.
We went against our instinct to poke around this electric city on the underside—the exposed electrical components and capacitors are...shocking. If you're working on a device with an internal power supply, hold it by the edges to avoid touching components.

“Enter the Steam Deck” (2022)
The back cover of the Steam Deck is easy to remove and reveals the device's internals, like the fan, battery, and button boards.
This ease of access is part of the reason this device earned a respectable 7/10 repairability score.
