@nprofile…5zlq @nprofile…6h3y You just me realize that I'm the only person in my closest circles for whom "a ditto" means a low-res copy of schoolwork in blue ink. For everyone else it's a Pokemon and they think the name means "me too".
And then I realize that this lack of context harms them not even a little, and I feel somehow robbed.
Nostalgia just isn't what it used to be.

@nprofile…6h3y This is my favorite kind of post, where I mentally say "oh that's easy, X is worse because Y and Z. I mean, I guess A is true the other way. And B. And C...oh"
And I end up in full agreement despite being initially the opposite, all within seconds.
Reinforces important lessons.
...I wish I had examples that involved less existential despair though.

@nprofile…6h3y I've been disappointed because I really want examples of patterns that DO follow best practices (in particular using semantic html to reduce the need for aria). The APG seems directed at a use case I'm trying to avoid.
It's handy for seeing examples of a particular aria property in use, (once I know I need that one) but it's not optimized for that case.
And both of these are in addition to your point.
I'm not complaining about an informed, free, a11y resource, I just yearn for more.

@nprofile…ltkx @nprofile…nvg9 @nprofile…n90q One of my college classes had a speaker come in to discuss "Sustainable Living". She seemed like such a a radical extremist, but she wasn't advocating for anything more than to slowing down enough to make choices we can live with. No "give up technology", no "live simple lives", just "don't take from the world more than we can afford to" and that seemed so alien and unfeasible.
That was almost 30 years ago, and Ive never felt comfortable with it.

@nprofile…d6h6 You lost me. You don't think people trusting fancy auto complete with life-altering decisions is relevant?
For vendors or trolls, the showmanship is the means, but most people are the victims of the showmanship, and their trust of the LLMs seems painfully relevant.
We've seen how vulnerable the world is to the confidently wrong. Now it's automated, ubiquitous, and almost mandated.
I see both my students and my administration using/trusting LLMs as in the article, and it scares me.

@npub1lgd…e4sf @npub18x5…z5lv Despite being in "tech" and having a long interest in "AI", I've been a strong critic of LLMs for environmental, copyright, ethical, and practical reasons. That latter point has played out as the skill of the students who ignore my warnings has notably dropped in the past year.
Sadly, the university I teach at is all in on the tech, making it clear to instructors that we will be too. I don't even know how to respond to that.

(No joke though, when I got my first web task I called it "FTP with pictures" and "a waste of bandwidth". Not my best moment.)
