It has its audience, I’m sure it’s great for those that prefer not to write html/css by hand and maybe have more of a design background rather than development but for a developer that’s been doing just that for more than 20 years, webflow is painful 🫢

🙄 Apple strikes again, this time threatening to remove Patreon from the App Store if they don’t switch to Apples in-app payments
Sounds like Patreon are going to play by the rules so this is just going to raise Patreon subscriptions prices by 30% just to go into the pockets of Apple or expect creators to loose 30% revenue if they don’t adjust their prices for iOS subs.

Bingo! I don’t want every client I use for different tasks now and in the future to all come with their own wallet implementation, at worst funds would be spread across different apps and at best they would all be non custodial sharing the same node however that’s still many wallet user interfaces to interact with depending on the app I’m using at the time.
I would much rather a single designated wallet app I can trust

Almost had a panic attack restoring a bitcoin wallet backup in bitcoin core. After restoring it I checked the wallet passcode by attempting to unlock the wallet for a couple of seconds and I wasn’t seeing the padlock icon unlock 😱
Turned out I just forgot to load the wallet after restoring so the walletparaphrase command was running against another loaded wallet, worst couple of minutes I’ve encountered in a long time 😂

What worries me about nostore on iOS and a reason I’m yet to use it is although it’s open source there’s no way to guarantee as far as I know that the App Store build hasn’t been modified before publishing (without purchasing an apple developer license and building from scratch). There’s many clients I want to try on mobile (web) but end up just using them on desktop instead with nos2x.
I haven’t fully grasped nsecbunker but intend to dig into it more when I have some free time.

I tried #primal out for the first time earlier with a new account. I didn’t spend long using it before coming back to Damus.
The UI is nice and the onboarding of a new account was slick but the KYC wallet put me off, I know I can just edit the profile and add lightning address to receive zaps outside the app but the wallet appears to be a prominent feature of Primal with it being the middle tab and emphasised yet I didn’t want to activate it with my personal details. It looks like you can already send/receive without activating the wallet too so what’s the purpose of activation?
This experiment made me realise I don’t want my nostr clients and lightning wallet to be a single app, I understand not everyone wants and thinks like I do but the attraction of nostr to me is the ability to switch clients at any point and take my content with me so a separate wallet makes much more sense.

They are, I got there in the end but the pool of questions just felt off to me when wanting to buy bitcoin but asked questions about shitcoins 🤷🏻‍♂️
On the one hand I don’t mind the new steps to prevent people investing before understanding but the question pool needs to be revised based on the financial promotion imo. Don’t ask me about some scam cryptocurrency I’ve never heard about before when I’m trying to purchase bitcoin etc…

Follow up from previous note, after agreeing that I should not invest more than 10% of my net assets over the next 12 months 🙄 there was a quiz of about 9 questions to pass in order to continue, this will become standard practice for all exchanges operating in the UK with a final deadline of 8th January.
Questions varied a bit around rules exchanges follow in the UK, protection against losses, volatility, stable coins and even shitcoins. According to the FCA handbook and proposals users will see different questions each time as they are pulled from a pool of questions.
The on-ramp has now become so much steeper for new investors, I think these new changes will severly hinder new investors getting in and stunt growth in the UK. Consumers will also need to be reassessed every 12 months.
Honestly not sure how to feel with this, we know the risks, all of this seems overly excessive.

🚩New UK rules from the FCA are going to make it next to impossible for anyone to accumulate a substantial amount of #bitcoin
Most of us will fall into the “restricted investor” category limiting us to no more than 10% of our assets (excluding home if primary residence and pension) being invested.
I was honest, stated I’ve invested ~20% net assets in the last 12 months but I agreed to invest no more than 10% in the next 12 months yet still failed the assessment 🤷🏻‍♂️ according to their handbook I now have one more shot at this before being locked out for 24 hours before being able to try again with slightly bent answers 🫠
You would need to have £340,000 in savings/stocks right now and not invested anything in the last 12 months to be able to buy 1BTC today.

🫂 In my last update shared almost 3 months ago I mentioned a challenging period when a wave of redundancies affected both myself and many close friends.
Its been difficult navigating the minefield of the hiring process that seems to be the norm now compared to the past, it’s been a stressful time but I’m now fortunate enough to say that I have secured a new position and I can begin to stress less and live more.
Employment aside and looking back now, the hardest pill to swallow over the last 3 months was the need to use my emergency fund to get by and not have the means to accumulate more BTC. I’m now looking forward to being able to top up the spent rainy day funds so that I can get back to stacking sats in the new year.
The good news from all of this is I didn’t need to loose any BTC during this time to survive 🤙

Come back up now, was a period of about 15 minutes in with buy/sell disabled. The only time I’ve seen this from #coinbase is during scheduled maintenance with plenty of warning in advance there was nothing just now.

Zapr has served me well for the last few weeks but it’s time to pull the plug on it now I’ve just come across this 🤩
@npub1xts…kk5s is there a plan to see what scripts have been enabled/installed and maybe view the human readable script before enabling a #nostrscript? I’m certain you wouldn’t have allowed the sandbox/runtime access to our nsecs but not knowing what a script is doing behind the scenes makes me a little nervous (I haven’t had chance to view the changes on GitHub yet)

You can Zap profiles on iOS but it’s against their guidelines to Zap notes as they consider it tipping digital content.
You can use https://www.zapplepay.com/ if using Alby which once setup and linked to your wallet will turn your reactions into zaps.
https://www.zapr.social (I built and use) is an alternative which allows you to zap any amount without being bound by reactions or linked to your wallet in anyway. Zaps works with a number of wallets you have on your device.

The last few weeks have been very tough, I inherited a clients project that was long overdue and worked day and night for the last 3 weeks to get the features they wanted implemented and the project across the line. This has meant I’ve had no time, motivation or energy to work on my own Nostr side projects after work 🥺
I managed to get this project completed yesterday with a release in their hands they can be happy with just in time for my birthday off today.
I’m now having a short break, heading out for food/drinks today and will be switching off from work for the next 3 days. Hopefully Monday comes and my mind and body will be in far better shape so that I feel up for working on my side projects in the evenings again.

PWA on iOS are so far behind Android, it’s unbelievable.
Add to home-screen flow for a start, I actually wonder if the majority of iOS users even know it exists or is it just something developers know about 🤔 Android has the ability to check if the user has already “installed” the PWA and if not you can prompt them to do so without the awkward add to home-screen dance.
Once added to home-screen, clicking a link in any other application (notes/messages/email) iOS doesn’t recognise you have added the site to the home-screen so it proceeds to open in the browser rather than full screen/standalone view you would get when opening the home-screen shortcut directly, I believe this is not the case on Android.
Final straw, turns out any Safari extensions a user may have enabled will not work when launching your site from a home-screen shortcut, making it impossible to use nostore in a PWA

You can downgrade Damus to earlier versions with TestFlight or if you prefer the latest version (I do) but still want the ability to send zaps I made www.zapr.social
Once setup (2 mins) you can just double tap the back of your iPhone to zap a note ⚡️

Thanks for the feedback 🤙 Unfortunately it’s not possible at the minute 🥺 window.close does nothing in the context of this webview, it’s slightly annoying but it’s better than the alternative (switching to a browser)
I have an idea that can improve Zapr and other microapps massively (and remove the need for the shortcut completely).
My swift skills are not the best but I’m going to have a go at implementing a feature on Damus very soon🤞

Seems to be a common issue, I only have WoS installed so always opens in my preferred wallet in development so I never noticed this issue, a fix will be out shortly to allow you to select a preferred wallet.
