Anyone have #RabbitMQ experience? I am having the strangest problem...
I have a #NodeJs app. I'm using #amqplib. From one terminal, I run a script that connects to rabbit, creates a channel, then creates a message consumer, and runs continuously.
From a second terminal, I run a script that connects to rabbit, creates a channel, then sends a message to the same queue.
I would expect the consumer to receive the message, but it doesn't 😫
but that's not the strangest part...

Anyone interested in RSS + Podcasting 2.0 and relational databases?
It is still a draft (it hasn't been tested), but we have a Postgres SQL file for creating ALL of the RSS + Podcasting 2.0 related tables.
This could be split into many more files for readability, but we're keeping all RSS related table logic in one file for now.

Podcasting 2.0 question:
Can a <channel> contain <item> AND <podcast:remoteItem> tags mixed together at the same level (not talking about podroll of VTS), or can a <channel> only contain <item> OR <podcast:remoteItem>?
If they can be mixed, maintaining a true "chrono order" doesn't seem possible since <podcast:remoteItem> doesn't have a pubDate field.
If they can't be mixed, then querying for only one or the other at a time should be fairly easy.

Trying to figure out how to use the <podcast:person> tag with database relationships...
Since Adam Curry is one person, at first glance it seems like I would want a singular "Adam Curry" person row in a table, and that row gets referenced to many channels and items.
But it doesn't look like <podcast:person> is meant to be used this way, or I imagine it'd have a guid.
I guess we will save person with each channel and item row, and for a "list all by person" feature, we'll need special handling

I received an email promotion from Audazzio, asking if Podverse would like to partner with them. It looks like they've invented chapters!
Chapters are a great feature, but RSS already has a solution for it. Instead of trying to work out private partnerships with podcast apps, I wonder if they'd have more success using RSS chapters to deliver their content and ads? RSS seems like an easier path to adoption.

@npub1dft…ta3d do you have any Add by RSS feeds? I just tested pull down to refresh for me (100+ podcast subscriptions and 2 add by rss feeds) and it took 2-3 seconds to refresh. Podverse podcast subscriptions should be quick to refresh, but Add by RSS feeds can take variable length to finish parsing since it’s not making a request to our server but the feed directly.
If that’s not it, I’ll need to dig deeper to figure out what is different between your podverse account and mine.

Is anyone having issues listening to No Agenda livestream today (or recently)? I’m using Podverse on mobile iOS and the livestream keeps stopping on me.
I just switched to the PV website and it seems to be working. I wonder if the mobile player is trying to jump ahead to / resume from a non-existent part of the livestream...odd if this is a new issue as we haven’t released an update in a while. Maybe iOS update changed things? Maybe the livestream server changed its configuration recently?

metadata preload request uses the request header "Range: bytes=0-" to request the beginning of the file where metadata is contained, but the actual playback requests will use a different header with a greater than 0 value like "Range: bytes=3145728-".
Would it be possible for OP3 to discard requests when "Range: bytes=0-", but count requests when Range is greater than 0? We'd like to keep the UX benefits of metadata preloading if possible

We have the <audio> preload attribute set to "metadata" so that we can display relevant metadata for the media file (mainly the accurate media file duration) on web page load. I understand stats tracking services wouldn't want to count a metadata request as a download/play for an episode.

@npub1n7c…qf7l @npub12x8…mjy3 hey hmm...i suspect the "stuck on chapter 1" issue is related to the fact the first chapter happens at 0.001 seconds, and the second chapter happens at 0.07 seconds. Generally our player only handles integers for chapter times (and I think Math.floor(startTime) the floats we get behind the scenes).
So unfortunately we may not be able to support this chapters file right now.

It appears the day has come that scammers are farming free Podverse memberships through our iOS and Google Play Beta tracks 🤦‍♂️
Ironically as a v4v company, we will extend anyone's membership for free if they email us, but we want there to be a human connection in the process so ppl aren't botting, farming, then re-selling memberships in mass.
I think the default behavior of TestFlight is to not actually use the payment processor, so we might have to move to an invite-only model for Beta testers

If it wouldn’t introduce other problems, replacing the lower podcast index ID would prevent Podverse users from getting unsubscribed when a newer URL with a higher podcast index ID takes its place speech to text. I would suggest that whichever instance has a lower PI ID gets updated with the new feed URL, and the newer duplicate instance gets removed. That way, listeners who are subscribed to the older/original PI ID in Podverse will still be subscribed, even though the RSS feed url for that PI ID has updated.

Just chiming in as a 3rd party...it is very difficult to scale up a service like Alby when there is a surge in adoption. I'd encourage people to be patient with them doing what they need to do to scale, and also, it's not Alby's fault if they're just about the only game in town. There should be a variety of v4v compatible wallet services.

@npub19v7…al4a thanks for the bug report. I just confirmed you're correct the podcast-level boostagram button is broken (although boostagrams that are sent from within the Player screen work).
I believe I have a fix in place locally. Can you check your transactions and see if 2 boosts were received for 1111 for the podcast level, and 1 boost was received for 2222 at the episode level?

Second (lastly), boostagram messages are indeed broken in v4.15.2 🤦‍♂️
It turns out there was *always* a race-condition where the boostagram message text could fail to make it into our final boost/keysend request...but this race-condition is exposed and happening 100% of the time due to a async process that was introduced in 4.15.1.
@npub19v7…al4a can you check your NAPSOT? I just sent a refund / bug bounty because I appreciate the timely and critical bug report.

First of all, I noticed streaming playback of Grumpy Old Bens wasn't working in v4.15.1, but downloading was working. This should be fixed in v4.15.2.
It turns out this is because Podverse enforces HTTPS security, but your enclosure tag uses HTTP...but we have a special `getSecureUrl` handler to resolve this, which follows redirects on our server and looks for an HTTPS final URL...but I only had it enabled for downloads, not streaming playback.

Our logic compares “latest episode pubDate” against the latest episode pubDate we found the last time we parsed that feed to decide if we should send a notification. It doesn’t seem like there’s any reason to think those values changed in these feeds though. Could be that I changed something in the past few days that could explain this new behavior and I have just forgotten.

Our "send notification" logic looks for either new episodes, or if the latest episode has a newer date than the latest episode the last time we parsed the feed. I think I saw @npub1df6…ns3a report a time zone issue with SF recently. Were timestamps updated for the existing feeds by chance?

A podcast listener in our Matrix chatroom asked if we have a guide for switching from Google Podcasts to Podverse, not because they were switching, but to show someone else how to do it.
With Christmas coming up, it'd be nice to have some "change your podcast app" guides, so fans of Podcasting 2.0 apps can make it easy for family and friends to switch 🎁

thanks for setting up the demo repo! worked like a charm (after i figured out our socket in the mobile app needed to use /event?event_id=your-guid-here).
Seems like it should be relatively simple to override our chapters / valueTag logic when an event is received. As far as the spec goes, I wonder how much is "value" and how much is various useful realtime information?

We think it's important that there not just be one monolithic source, so multiple apps maintain podcast directories. There is ~15-20 minute delay currently between when podcasts are updated in Podcast Index, and Podverse updates accordingly.
The best I can do in the near-term is provide you with an endpoint where you pass in the podcast guid and episode guid as url parameters, and then...

While I think this would be nice to have, we also have to keep the UX lean, as too much info and too many options can hurt UX due to "the paradox of choice." At the moment I lean toward this being an advanced setting rather than a default behavior for all listeners.
Would you mind creating Github issues as feature requests for these? The warning would be one issue, and the slider + graph would be a separate issue.

@npub19v7…al4a I’m pretty sure the try/catch block should handle when errors are thrown, then the promise is set to null *after* the try/catch block, so it should always be set to null for success and failure cases.
In theory a function in the catch block could throw an error, but I inspected them and don’t think that’s a real possibility.

@npub19v7…al4a we have our own database, but it would be risky and messy if we try to keep track of Alby transaction history. That data should be provided to us by the wallet provider imo *so we know it is accurate*, rather than us building our own separate data layer, which could fall out of sync with Alby.

hey @npub1quq…7prs, does Alby have an endpoint that Podverse could use for displaying their recent Alby wallet transaction history? Which transactions succeeded, which failed, what tlv records were passed, etc.
When I check the docs, I don't think I see an option for that:

1) history of Boostagrams I am not sure we can add unless Alby offers an endpoint for retrieving that data. We don’t want to track that data bc Alby should maintain transaction record. Maybe they offer such an endpoint and I just haven’t heard?
2) hopefully fixed next release
3) we cache chapters for 1 hour. We also do want to add a force refresh option but it is tricky as if we don’t implement with special rules someone could abuse it and try to bombard our server with parsing jobs.

@npub17d6…v8qz hah well I’m not a hardliner against paid feeds…but if they really want to make their old/archived content “paid only” they should remove and replace all the previous URLs they shared pointing to the mp3s. They’re unhappy with us caching the data from their *public/free feed* but their *paid* content is still available at the same old paths.
Anyway, I think there were several different ways we could have remediated it, but since they went straight to Apple, we have to remove it.

The podcaster followed up, and it sounds like they are unhappy that the feed was not parsed for 2 months, and content they now have “archived” in a paid feed was still available through Podverse.
Had they told us this in the first place, we could have added their feed to our “parse every X minutes” list, but they decided to go nuclear and report us to Apple instead 😒 so the content is now removed.

We received a copyright takedown complaint from Apple today from someone who claims they contacted us several times to take down copyrighted material. We cannot find any correspondence from this person prior. The complaint doesn't even tell us which RSS feeds or podcast titles they want removed. We have to contact the person directly via email for further correspondence.
Interesting to see this process up close...

@npub17d6…v8qz @npub12x8…mjy3 personally I would too. We’d be able to customize the UI experience more, and it’d be better for accessibility. I do think this is a valid use of chapters though if podcasters want to do it like this.
I’ll include a setting so you can disable non-table of contents chapters (aka boostagram chapters) in the app if you really don’t want to see them at all.

A better UX for boostagram chapters coming soon in @npub12x8…mjy3 v4.14.3.
Boostagram chapters will still display on the player screen, but they won't appear in the chapters "Table of Contents."
Pressing the next/previous button will take you to the next/previous chapter in the Table of Contents, and will skip over boostagram chapters.

The podping succeeded, and our server even picked up on it and re-parsed, but our "should we send notification?" logic seems to have failed...
Our should send notification (as I understand) works as follows:
1) Get all live items from the feed, and all the live items we previously had saved for the feed.
2) Loop over the current live items, and see if a previously saved live item *with that guid* is already in our database.
