Long-time theatre actor…villains are the best to play. Hand’s down. Audiences love a well-played villain.
There’s an old saying “the nicest actors make the best villains”. Good people LOVE to express their ‘shadow side’ by playing villains.
For the record, the greatest villain in film history was Tim Roth in “Rob Roy”. Simple fact, not at all my personal opinion.
As an actor who’s played several ‘villains’, I get far, far better community-response from those roles than from protagonist roles. Depending on the script, of course.

One of the fundamental recognitions in all real spiritual traditions is that everything moves within us and without us because of 3 forces aligning.
It’s said in many, many ways. My little brain understands it as: in All Things, Great and Small, there is an Ego-actor incentivized to act, there is the effect/response of the thing acted upon, and there is the Actualized Result (which is so often mis-identified & misunderstood, because it must be an integral part of the first two aligning correctly so that it’s not simply a mis-fire of the first two).
So while I get I sound like some spiritual rando on the Nostr-web, it’s fascinating to me that you used 2 examples of that understanding in one sentence. Just dropping into this convo to say that speaks to me.

The central thesis here is that, imo, arguing against Nostr is arguing against the strongest player in the game. And no team doesn’t hire the strongest player, even knowing the future is uncertain.
As a 25+ year investment advisor, I learned never to bet on any particular company in what was a clear emergent “theme”. Bet on most of them. But I’m a Maxi now, I’ve disavowed that fiat thinking. So I’m all-in on Nostr, w/ Twitter as my fiat sweep account. But for people still trying to find their social media “plan b”, trying to figure out what’s happening in the social media world, this is a maelstrom of decisions happening fast.
I subbed you on Nostr probably more than a year ago. Now shit’s exploding. The response to people who want to argue against what’s clearly happening is, imho:

That’s why I like to follow the price of Bitcoin in Barrels of WTI Crude Oil in your Rumble chat! I want to view price-movement in something other than fiat currency, and Oil is the best proxy I’ve found.
(FYI when I started doing that a couple years ago it was roughly 250k sats / barrel. Last Thurs I believe it was ~123k / barrel.)

I’ve recently become incredibly smitten with someone who is locked in an abusive relationship. I’ve never encountered this before, so I’m learning constantly now how common it is, in both men and women, and how it creeps in slowly…because sociopaths gotta sociopath.
In researching this, I found this piece from pop-psych mag Psychology Today that was amazing, and I’ve read it over and over again…referred it to my friend and she said “that was my life wrapped up in one article”.
I’m learning that abuse isn’t a victim problem, it’s what happens when normal people don’t know that there are sociopaths in the world. So they get ensnared slowly, thinking they are working hard to manage normal relationships in normal ways. They don’t realize they’re with people who are not healthy but have been struggling to appear as healthy their whole lives.
Yes, for the Bitcoiners reading this we realize that ALL of us are in an abusive relationship. We, and I, get this. But it hits home to experience this much closer to my home and to heart.
Recognizing the sociopath personality is absolutely, 100% key to awakening in our modern world. They are small, but they are legion, and totally in control because naturally they seek control…where normal people don’t want to. Bitcoiners get this. There’s a reason most of Congress in the US is over 70…they have no interest in retiring and spending time with loved ones. They don’t understand loved ones, or people. They only understand control. It’s so unhealthy.
Bitcoin has vastly helped me understand how to be strong and sensitive and patient with a woman I’m whooped by. (And things are going forward in a very amazing way, just to say).

I didn’t mind the first one (only one I’ve seen), but I truly appreciate that Keanu was literally the only choice for that role - a middle-age A-list actor who has spent 20 years or more on the cutting edge of fight-combat. It’s doubtful the film would’ve had much impact with anyone else.
Also I heard they had a 3-day location shoot that couldn’t be changed and Keanu came down w/ stomach flu. They said he never complained, gave his all, and spent his downtime resting and vomiting. Also heard he genuinely makes an effort to hang-out with everyone one his shoots, which is a sign of character if its true.

We live in a time when there is no money for general healthcare (a bloated inflationary system), no money for education (ditto), no money for retirement (ditto), no money to promote entrepreneurialism, et al, ad nauseum.
And yet there’s ready money to build Large Hadron colliders, and the next gen of the same, and Webb and Hubble telescopes. Projects which generate no revenue. And doubtless money to fund countless other scientific projects not tied to a verifiable income stream.
This tells me - at the point I’ve reached in my life - that these advanced, expensive “humanitarian” projects being funded are ones that move forward Defense projects already underway.

Only polling on Damus:
Last year I trialed Whirlpool turning 1mill sats into 9 different 100k sat utxos (cuz fees borked the last one).
Now, I don’t want to combine those sats, as that would render useless the forward-privacy I paid for.
Yet I don’t want ANY 100k sat-lots going forward, because of fear they’ll be orphaned by fees.
So looking for suggestions (& Damus doesn’t allow for polls).
1) Combine them and accept the loss of privacy?
2) Spend them quickly, and accept my Whirlpool experience was just a fad?

Feeling vulnerable posting this, but I’m going to take the risk:
What’s a respectable dating site for people who don’t live in a major city-center in the US? Like useful for people who need to search a 40 or 60 mile radius to find someone who draws them into their planet?
I mean, I’m normal, successful, well-liked and regarded, in good shape, and don’t identify as anything in particular. I like women who are authentic in who they are. Yet that said, I’m very discerning, hence this request.
But the thing is, I live in an amazingly wonderful small town in Wisconsin that I love, yet for years now I haven’t found any women available I’m interested in.
I’m very much independent, not an addict, enjoy people just being themselves. But in the place I love to live in, I can’t find a woman I’m drawn to be with, so looking to branch out. But that’s really impossible to do without a dating site.

The typical “End Times” religions have seen rising demographics/adherents in the past decade or more, including major (very elderly) leaders in Congress.
“The Rapture” is a made-up storyline, no different to Harry Potter, but many old people have been captured by it. Nothing in the Bible ever spoke about it (it was made up in the late-1800’s by a fringe sect of Christianity.)

Bitcoin is unequivocally a decentralized currency. I’m not arguing, but there is no doubt about this.
If it wasn’t, virtually every Nation State wouldn’t be creating their own, VERY Centralized currencies to counter it.
If Bitcoin wasn’t decentralized, the SEC wouldn’t be denying it an ETF while Wall Street embraces any number of shit-coins.
If Bitcoin wasn’t decentralized, it wouldn’t be infiltrating and becoming an adopted currency in collapsing nations.
We’ve never had a truly permissionless, in-corruptible money. In Human lifetime. We’re all fuzzy on how this matters and how it will play out.
But it is happening, and it’s incumbent on all of us to spend time to learn about Bitcoin, and how this will play out. We can’t afford to “fuck around and find out”.

I feel the doom-porn about Blackrock introducing a hard-fork of Bitcoin is dismissed far too casually. We need to have far more imagination about this.
Here’s my elevator pitch for how this thriller plays out:
BTC ETFs get approved across almost every large investment institution, become massively funded as the coming bull market ensues. None allow self-custody.
A narrative-friendly hard-fork of BTC is rolled out, Proof of Stake, ESG-friendly, yadda yadda.
Western/WTF Gov’ts worldwide pass legislation that all financial institutions must convert BTC holdings to this new fork.
To backstop any disruptive market-responses, Central Banks guarantee to support the price of the new offering at par w/ BTC, even provide new inflows as they announce programs to take the new & better BTC into gov’t treasuries.
Of course, trading in old BTC is banned, and miners receive massive incentives/subsidies to support the new protocol, essentially becoming public utilities.
Retail/Service businesses of all sizes are incentivized to accept BetterBTC, led by Amazon - most banks now gladly accept it as collateral for mortgages, loans, etc.
China leads an influx of non-Western countries along this same path. BTC was a threat to them as well, and they fomo to gain influence in the new Proof of Stake BTC.
Normies throughout the richest countries of the world notice nothing other than that Gov’ts ‘solved’ BTCs problems they’d been hearing about for years, and their net worth has soared.
The maxis of today flee to their respective El Salvadors, but find that even Bukele’s successor begrudgingly adopts BetterBTC alongside BTC & $US as currency because “market forces should decide which is best”.

I had a moment just now tonight, scrubbing a heavy cast-iron enameled pot in a too small sink, and I thought about all the plebs and good people at the Bitcoin Conference tonight and why I didn’t go and what they’re doing and what I’ve chosen not to do and what I’m doing now….
And I realized, scrubbing this pot and fending away my jackass cat who is amazing but an annoyance I never wanted in my life…
There are two rivers of Life. They’re Energetic. One flows upward, one flows downward. I know and feel these rivers of energy inside me, sometimes, obey them always.
Bitcoin is a Truth, I know that. It gives me a pole-star outside the turbulence of these rivers. I’m grateful for that.
It also gives me an anchor.
I appreciate the transformative influence Bitcoin has had on my life, even peripherally in only a few short years.
But I don’t need Bitcoin.
All I need is the promise Bitcoin has awakened in me. I don’t need my life to be guided by a Bitcoin future. I just want to know that another future is possible, and then I’m good.
I washed my dishes in a different stream of Life tonight than I did years ago. I had a moment where I became aware of that, so I wanted to share.

I was debating #onlyzaps in my head this morning, not sure how I felt about it, then realized I’d never know unless I tried it. So I enabled it on Damus…
Within moments it just felt right. And I haven’t even zapped anyone yet.
So anywho I’m posting this now to encourage Nostr’ers on the fence like me to just enable it for a day, or two, see how it hits you in the feelz. Then debate it intellectually after that.

Ranked-Choice Voting is still the most significant movement Bitcoiners might want to understand in the meat-world space.
Its a recognized and tested, easy to understand method for essentially saying “I vote for X, but if X doesn’t win, shift my vote to Y”.
Opens up elections to 3rd Party candidates, is phenomenally easy to implement, and encourages people to think beyond their 2-Party spectrum.
Of course…its largely blocked by both dominant Parties.

The question around ‘traceability’ is likely what is referred to as Forward Privacy. If you bought BTC on a KYC exchange acct, your purchase is known and recorded, as are all movements ‘going forward’. Therefore you should assume you will one day be called to account for that purchase. (i.e. possibly one day your gov’t will enact an Unrealized Gains Tax on ‘crypto’, and you will be taxed on your purchase(s), even if they don’t know what you did with them afterwords.) So if you bought thru a KYC acct, you may - MAY - be screwed already, regardless whether you observe utmost privacy going forward.
So back to the main question, ‘traceability’: if you simply want to spend your BTC w/o being personally connected to a particular spend…the easiest way (I’ve heard of and can’t vouch for) is to find an exchange that will allow acct opening w/ only an (unique, private) email. Send only enough to stay w/i their withdrawal requirements for KYC registration, exchange into XMR, send the XMR to an XMR-wallet (to break the traceable path)…then spend the XMR freely from there.
If you need to spend actual BTC or wish to break Forward Privacy for BTC (w/o paying huge coinjoin fees), do all the above, but then send the XMR to a NEW acct at the same or different exchange (under a new unique & private email), swap XMR for BTC, then send BTC to a wallet address you’ve never used before for KYC transfers.
You see…its a complicated mess. And the window is closing quickly on this complicated mess. Envy those who bought their BTC years ago before KYC…they were born on third-base, think they hit a triple.
My point being…I’ve never done any of this, only thought it thru for funsies…but your big question is WHAT DO YOU WANT with BTC? If you bought via KYC acct, you can assume you are tracked and every spend is monitored. So how much effort/how much incentive do you have to put into changing this situation?

Bitcoiners come from everywhere, all types. Bitcoin is overwhelmingly Hope. Bitcoiners are realists…prepared and quick to respond to an attack, but they accept that their little lot in life is to plant, sow, work now for the future. This is my experience for a few years in Bitcoin. I can’t know what your experience is, of course.
