What do you think of the idea of a p2p ride-sharing app that leverages drivers reputation on the centralized apps? They could still drive for Uber, Bolt, Lyft, but also for themselves.
Drivers would put a QR in the back seat so riders can dl the p2p app to request/schedule their next trip directly from the driver. Pay with cash, Lightning, whatever.
I thought I saw someone working on this, but I can't find the post on nostr.
Outside of the western world it would improve on current systems that use Telegram or SMS.

In the western world where Uber, Lyft, Bolt et al exist, a driver could get certified by one or more of the traditional apps and somehow link their profile to a decentralized ride-sharing app.
I think I read about someone doing just that in an app. You can have a QR in the car for people to scan if they want a discount return ride outside the Uber app paid in Bitcoin/Lightning/cash, etc.

I understand there are telegram channels where people coordinate private taxi networks and rides are paid in cash. A dedicated app would be a step up for these areas, but not in places where people aren't comfortable with the risks.

Greenspan talked about fighting inflation in his Libertarian/Objectivist writings, before being appointed fed chairman. It helped smooth the way for his appointment. In Phoenix they solve the low value wallet problem with JIT/zero conf. I'm curious how Spark compares to that solution. Phoenixd also handles low sat payments with a custodial credit system so maybe that's the biggest difference. You can receive but not resend low values.

In the future, quantum computers will enhance Bitcoin's security.

- quantum-safe signatures may be 10-100x larger than Schnorr signatures
- larger signatures mean fewer transactions per block
- fewer txs are equivalent to smaller blocks (1/10th to 1/100th of today)
- smaller blocks increase bidding for tx fees
- tx fees will be more important for security as the subsidy decreases
QED.. in the future, the need for quantum safe signatures will reduce the risk of an insufficient mining security budget! 😉

This brings up an important aspect of automation vs human labor: cost. In California we always paid a service to mow and blow the lawn, but in Sweden even well off people mostly do their own lawn care. Robot lawn mowers have really taken off in Sweden because labor costs are so high (mostly taxes tbh). I wonder if reducing imported illegal labor will not create more business for automation products. Even hiring a backhoe operator vs. team of day workers is a win for automation.

TIL that Wells Fargo only lets you transfer $500 to a newly added external account if that account is from $cashapp. The default is $5000 for a bank or credit union. Support told me they have a different lower limit due to "fraud" risk but give no message about why higher transfers failed on the web site.

When I was 17 I had a "free reading" class where the only work was to read a certain number of pages and write a book report for each book I read. To minimize the number of reports, I selected the largest fiction book on my parents book shelf - Atlas Shrugged (800 pages). I've been skeptical of government economic and cultural propaganda since.
It's been a gradual awakening about other topics since then, but 2008 made me very awake about classic investing. Although I took the wrong lessons - I should have double downed on leverage and buying stocks instead of into mostly cash and SPY.
It wasn't until Bitcoin that exactly how the economic game has been played by those in power has started to make sense.

I took a quick look at https://nostr.how/en/zaps and I think the payer's nostr app needs to pass to the payer's Lightning app via an API call:
- the static invoice of the note's poster
- an ID for the zap that the payer's LN app should include as a note with the payment
- the sats amount the payer selected
The zapper's nostr app can then post a note about the zap with the ID, amount and relays to respond to. This should be possible without nostr specific changes to Lightning clients.
The note lets the zap receiver know what note was zapped. I'm not sure how the zap receiver can confirm the zap though. They would need their Nostr app to query their Lightning app.. or maybe the other way around?
Then they can post the confirmation note to the relays specified by the sender.
