The thing that is simply a gem IMO is when they use this phone targeted at low-income markets, which is, let's be honest, pretty bad even for a midranger — despite that you can still play a more or less modern game at 40 fps on it, but you can't use it to browse some of the websites that are quite popular in developed countries.
I think we can thank countries like India (Russia will slide into such a market quite soon too) just for the fact that they exist, that such devices get made for these markets — and it at least prevents web devs from going full-retard with their JS-framework madness :marseyemojismilemouthtighteyes:

HP Dev One has trackpoint too. But I don't think it turned out as successful as they expect it to be. Probably for other reasons of course — but that's exactly how it works: they do something in a niche model and if it doesn't become successful, they think no one needs that.

That is why I am quite happy that you can use decade old hardware and it still works perfectly. IMO there is nothing worth upgrading hardware happening today: games — they no longer make them, video plays fine even on a decade long midrange laptop, "AI" is useless bullshit, and everyday software — if it requires newer hardware, it's 100% bloated crap.

However "I will keep doing that no matter what" and "this makes sense in my case" are different matters: if you have some info to share on why it makes for you, e.g. "these clang and rust that I have built for my Skylake CPU with -O3 build Firefox 20% faster and the resulting binary still doesn't crash immediately" — that would be interesting.
If you just take pleasure in building shit from source — that's quite different, but I don't think that anyone here can stop you. In fact, I probably spend more time building stuff from source than anyone — I'd really like to use prebuilt binaries, but they just do not exist for some architectures that I still use :marseylaughwith:

gccgo has its uses, for one it's more portable — it supports wider range of architectures than the reference toolchain, for example it can be built on Big Endian PowerPC65 machine like PowerMac G5 — not much practical use in it as a lot of external modules are targeted at the reference toolchain and fail to be built with gccgo unmodified. I think I have even managed to build it for 32-bit PowerPC — I can't do that anymore, some definitions are missing from latest gcc. I'd really like to though — this instance of mine runs on such a machine and I'd like to be able to host some software written in Go on in too, I really like the language (but not Google's involvement of course).
