@npub1j46…3gm7 I wonder how much of the excitement comes from people not actually being excited about anything in the tech industry since ... the iPhone?
But you're right, irresponsible adoption is dangerous (LLMs have all kinds of poorly understood security concerns), and half-assed gluing a chatbot to do the side of your app is likely not something users want. Finding the killer products/integrations is something that's going to take time.

@npub18r7…xrw4 Mixtral is more or less free on my MBP and while I’m still testing it, it’s been just as good as GPT3.5 for me in the last day.
Mistral is doing game changing stuff in the local LLM space.

@npub1mdk…aptk @npub1sy6…5dxr Oh, I mean, I'm never really concerned about the technology. Big new technologies tends to always win or lose on their merits. What I'm describing is just my frustration with the unhealthy and unproductive discourse around them. And it just makes me sad when otherwise smart people engage dismissively about a new technology with people trying to have good faith conversations.

@npub1sy6…5dxr The really unfortunate thing, IMHO, with the hype cycle is that it creates a lot of distrust and unnecessary backlash against the hyped tech. It pretty much happens every time: a new tech starts attracting talented people (and VC $), they hype the shit out of it with buzzwords and false promises, then there’s backlash and dismissal of the whole new space from the people who don't believe the hype. But just because there's hype doesn't mean theres something fundamentally wrong with the tech

I quit twitter after Elon made some anti-trans tweet (and it wasn't his last). From everything I've seen, Twitter has only become more of a cesspool under that same leadership. But Tim Apple continued to invest something like $100 million (maybe 2-3x more?) in Twitter ads, and now the company is releasing full episodes of shows there? For a company that presents itself as inclusive, that certainly isn't reflected in the way they spend their money.
