This has been an issue for a while. I posted quite recently about it here (https://mas.to/@tokyo_0/113378601689912523). There's an old suggested fix for it here (https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/issues/22154) that seems destined to gather cobwebs forever. I mentioned it to @npub19vf…lppg as well, although it sounded as though from an instance admin perspective the posts don't take up much space so there isn't much of a cost driver for it to be addressed. I do think in time it will be a problem for Mastodon, though. (cc @npub13za…8j89)

What makes the person acting with hope not the "true person"? (Is this about a specific domain, like hope of getting a certain response from other people? I can see how it would work in that context — like the idea of only seeing who someone really is when they don't get what they want.)

What's happening with #Lemmy and #Kbin these days? Are they both still being actively developed? Are they thriving? Did one win at the expense of the other? Or do they coexist without issue?
I've heard very little about either since the #Reddit situation blew up, but the situation with #StackOverflow has reminded me and it'd be great to understand w here things are with them now. Where would I go to see a functioning Reddit replacement on the #Fediverse?

To be honest, they still exist in Japan - perhaps not in their formal form, but the descendents of the huge zaibatsu still operate as conglomerates. There are still trading houses and banks and whole networks of distribution and manufacturing that all work within their own family of (very often "group") companies.

And aware, no doubt, that quote posts are a divisive, hot-button issue, they're already building into #Threads not only quote post functionality but more refined controls for it than I know of anywhere in the #Fediverse — a feature bound to attract attention and make people consider choosing Threads in preference to other Fediverse software that doesn't offer the same functionality.

A lot of people have insisted #Meta isn't getting involved with the #Fediverse to embrace, extend and extinguish it...
... but even before fully implementing Fediverse interoperability in #Threads they're already talking openly about changing its protocols to add features like monetization. 🤔

Can you imagine what the #Fediverse would look like now if the response to Gab had been "Admins don't need to block these instances, individual users can just choose whether or not to apply a user-level block (mute) themselves"?
And #Meta is even more corrosive than Gab. Gab users just posted a barrage of hate and unpleasantness. Meta is commercially incentivised to destroy what some people are inviting it to into.
