I've turned down several offers.
I'd rather be funded by y'all on a shoestring budget than sell out and have @npub1gq5…qcul lose the very luster that made it shine.

Pixelfed Live is quite a "heavy" feature, it requires a lot of resources and so I will allow admins to set a min follower limit for this
When you think about it, you as a user, probably only want to get notified if they have 1K or more followers for example
Users will be able to disable Pixelfed Live push notifications, or limit them to specific accounts
That being said, it's going to be quite the iconic feature, and non-Pixelfed users will be able to view and react/comment on Live streams 😎

Just shipped a new mini side-project for Pixelfed + Laravel Forge + Cloudflare.
This tool enhances your @npub1gq5…qcul server security by automatically updating your server's firewall to allow only Cloudflare IP ranges, effectively blocking unauthorized requests.
This can ensure that only legitimate traffic reaches your server, reducing the risk of attacks and unauthorized access.
Simply add 2 env vars and setup the scheduler, and it will auto-update 😎

You may have noticed pixelfed.social is slower than usual, after some investigation, I have discovered that Lemmy is behind the sudden surge in traffic.
While we are implementing Groups, we expected additional load from Lemmy and other Group supported projects
However, I never anticipated how much activity we'd get from Lemmy
To put this in perspective, lemmy.world has sent more activities to us than mastodon.social (to pixelfed.social)
I'm overhauling the inbox again to better handle this!

There are a lot of new aspects that Groups bring to Pixelfed that are similar to existing microblogging platforms, such as:
- Text only posts
- Quote posts
- Markdown support
- Link cards
- Polls
And more exotic features like:
- Events
- Anonymous Posts (if enabled)
- Multi tenant/dual layer moderation
- Realtime Group Chat
They add significant complexity, but we’re doing this properly, following best practices

Install a new server, and it will fetch trending posts and accounts, populate hashtags and synchronize followers/following lists and counts using our new service!
Already have a server? Opt-in to many discovery feeds, profile and hashtag suggestions and comment/avatar backfilling with fine grained config settings.

The nice thing about the new @npub1gq5…qcul app is that image aspect ratios are preserved, so you don’t miss any details!
Sometimes they can be taller than your screen, or constrained in a carousel, either way we are adding native pinch to zoom to allow you to quickly zoom in without leaving the screen/feed position you’re on!

The ironic thing about the whole Meta/Threads federation fiasco is that Pixelfed doesn't meet the requirements of Threads federation because we don't have a public firehose feed.
I really don't care about Threads, so maybe this will be fixed or maybe not.

Pixelfed Groups will allow admins to have fine-grained ACL permissions, you will be able to limit specific user permissions!
In addition, admins will have the ability to review all moderation actions from other mods/admins and all actions from the account.
Later we plan to ship support for webhooks, allowing admins to deeply integrate Groups into their platforms or services!

A majority of "growth" in the fediverse is spam
Which is why it's crucial that we nip this in the bud sooner rather than later
Instagram has a bad reputation for spam bots in replies and DMs
Unchecked spam can inflate stats and give the impression of growth
It's somewhat curious that Pixelfed is the only #fediverse platform that seems to proactively detect and reject spam to this degree

Apple Bonjour is a feature that enables seamless connection between your Apple devices
You can safely tap "Don't Allow" without any impact, however, that may limit Handoff support and other Apple features we're planning to implement.

I’m not an expert when it comes to encryption by any means, but from my work on Sup and my knowledge of the Signal protocol, I’m confident that the lies Elon and Telegram are spreading are unfounded.
You can review the Signal protocol to see for yourself, like they (Elon and them) would be pointing to smoking gun vulnerable code if they had any real dirt, but I’ve yet to see any 😉

Pixelfed really needs some corporate sponsors to help fund everything we are doing
If you know of potential sponsors that want their website or logo listed on pixelfed.org, https://fedidb.org, and https://fediverse.info please let me know!
It's getting expensive to fund all these out of pocket, and as it stands I may have to limit myself to Pixelfed only if we can't get more financial support.

- "49K Likes" is the total amount of likes of posts created by this account, a new reputational metric
- 6 feed nav tabs: (Photo grid, Loops, Collections, Comments, Tagged in Posts and Place Map (a map of posts you've made by location))
- Loops integration (more info on this soon.jpg)
- Link verification (when you add a verified website with rel=me, your profile website link will turn green with a badge to signal its verified)

Want to curate new users rather than have open registrations?
Not only do we support that, but we built a clever system to request more information from the applicant
We send them a link that takes them to a form where they can respond, and admins can get notified via email whenever there is a new applicant or response
But wait, there is more, admins can define reusable email request templates for easy management

Stop platform hate, create or collaborate
The #fediverse isn't perfect, it's the best solution we have
You can make a difference, simply by participating in a project/platform and suggesting ideas or reporting bugs
You don't need to know how to code to make this place better, but if you want to make a bigger impact, it does help
We need to stop shitting on fedi platforms like Mastodon and see the fediverse as the competitor to centralized social platforms

Loops is open source, and as such, I think it's a bit naive to spread rumors about data privacy when I haven't even pushed all the code yet.
I'm not some start up, I don't give a heck about your data, I just like building cool things for cool people

Did you know the [@pixelfed](https://mastodon.social/@pixelfed) app uses a deduplication algorithm on the hashtag feed?
Early on we identified a pattern of accounts posting the same content on their Mastodon/Pleroma account and again on their Pixelfed account.
Nobody wants to see duplicate posts, and I’m proud of the complex yet elegant solution I shipped!
It’s the small things and attention to detail that set us apart 😁

I only added 2 emojis myself, but yeah our implementation is clearly broken.
I thought Mastodon cached all custom emoji, but clearly I was wrong.
Will add this to my todo list.
