It's been mentioned before by many, but a social network where most of the discourse is social network meta is a fairly dull experience: it's the same problem that plagues Nostr too

@nprofile…4e56 God, that last sentiment, I just could never get that through people's head. The unwritten rule on fedi has always been "Don't use my data without my permission" but... that makes no sense for a federated protocol.
Plus, there's two bridges to Nostr that don't have opt-in/opt-out. I imagine fedi users really wouldn't be happy about those if they knew about them 😆

The DID Doc is easier to update: just gotta edit did.json and you're done. With a did:plc, you need to perform an "op", which is kinda easy to screw up (although, there's boat.kelinci.net/plc-applicator to help you, and you have a 72hr undo window).
did:web also means people can't see your handle history, if you're bothered about such a thing, and you can have a truly "clean" exit from ATProto (did:plc is stored at plc.directory which is a forever database).

Okay, if you're only on fedi and wondering what's going on:
Bluesky has a concept of "labels", where you can subscribe to labellers to show on people's profiles. They're usually used for moderation (e.g. @moderation.bsky.app — the default for bsky.app), but vanity/infomational/self-expression ones are becoming more popular (e.g. @pronouns.adorable.mom, @sonasky.app, @dev-labels.bsky.social).
Verification on Bluesky is done by assigning a domain to your handle (e.g. @xbox.com). The official apps, nor any third-party clients I'm aware of, don't make a big deal over this (there's no "checkmark" or anything). It's purely as a visual aid so someone can look at it and go "Ah yes, they're not impersonating".
Apparently this is way too difficult for some people, and someone built the @veri.blue labeller. This "Verified" label works similar to Twitter Verified (the original version), where there's specific guidelines to be verified, such as 25,000+ followers and a "noteworthy presence".
As you can imagine, this has not flown well with most of Bluesky, and there's been quite a shitposty sarcastic reaction... which led to creation of Verified by Tom™ labeller: this is the label you can see in the above screenshot, and all it requires you do is Subscribe and Like the labeller and it presents you with this utterly useless badge. Bit similar to fedi using :verified_flashing: emojis in their handles.
To give you an idea of the polization, currently:

@nprofile…dlzp The problem with Mastodon is it preaches about listening to the community, yet it still refuses to add such a basic feature, a feature that is available on other fedi servers as well as other social networks in general.
I'll never understand Gagron's position on this either. Yes, quote dunking is not great, but surely just slapping a link into a post with "RE:" and the original poster not being aware of it at all is worse.

Winding down my fedi usage due to a multitude of reasons, but still wanting to keep a presence around these parts, so will likely be moving over here soon if we shut down our GoToSocial instance.
Self-hosting is cool and all, but I feel like the 800MB of RAM its now chewing through could be better spent elsewhere (and this in not a failure of GoToSocial; its just the way fedi software goes once it federates to a lot of other instances).
Not entirely sure how I'm going to use fedi these days. I will not be crossposting from Bluesky anymore, so I encourage you to follow @ducky.ws@bsky.bridg.gy (remember to follow @bsky.brid.gy@bsky.brid.gy to to interact) to keep up with me properly. And in any case, this account will boost from there anyways.
