Krass, Glyphosat/AMPA als abbauprodukt von Weichspüler hatte ich definitiv nicht auf meiner Bingo-card...
Carolin Huhn ist ne top Wissenschaftlerin, das gibt mir schonmal vertrauen.
Ich kapier allerdings noch nicht ganz, warum so viel glyphosat gebildet wird, wenn es normalerweise ziemlich fix in AMPA zerfällt. Also wie stark die beiden Substanzen im Gleichgewicht vorliegen, wenn es (zumindest im Boden) eine Abbaureaktion ist.
An manchen Probennahmepunkten ist es aber immerhin halb soviel Glyphosat wie AMPA, an anderen rund ein zehntel...
Also nicht dass AMPA super wäre, es ist halt ein relativ stabiles Abbauprodukt mit noch ungeklärterer Wirkung von wegen endokriner disruptor oder als driver von Antibiotikaresistenzen...

I advise to be careful with quick defederation (except maybe for instances where you don't have any connections with).
All connections (follows) between your instance and the blocked instance will silently disappear, and people even won't even notice.
It's really hard to rebuild the connections afterwards and some peers will be lost forever.
This spam wave is the result of admins having open registration. Although it is nice and welcoming if people can set up an acc on your instance instantly, it opens the door for spambots.
So please, dear admins: switch to account request "appproval needed".
This will save us a lot of headache.
(Not a solution for the bots that are already present in the current wave).

In Germany we have a similar movement. They call themselves "Reichsbürger" and cosplay not to recognize the current State.
There are differet groups, some of them stick with the Emperor of the Deutsches Reich, others with the Nazis. Some of these people have a lot of time to discuss this kind of stuff and raw a lot of energy and purpose from this.
(they are also quite armed (involved in shootouts with cops, a rare thing for Germany), anti-vaxx and totally blubber).

Der dreckige deal ist ja aber auch, dass dir Privaten KVs sich eher healthy oberschichtsleute anlocken, die sie wesentlich weniger kosten als der Durchschnitt der öffentlichen.
Das öffentliche System funktioniert ja nur deshalb, weil junge & gesunde Menschen gefühlt draufzahlen (und in der privaten evtl. sogar günstiger unterwegs sind). Was die Leistungsträger die dann in die Private wechseln aber nicht mitrechnen ist, dass irgendwoher ja auch das Geld für die behinderte HarzIV-Oma kommen muss. Gesellschaftlich gesehen ist es ein Nullsummenspiel, nur dass manche halt vermeintlich schlauer sind.
Klar: öffentliche KVs machen viel Bürokratiequatsch, behandeln wirklich Bedürftige oft wie Müll, sind nicht besonders effizient und fördern unsinnigen Kram während sinnvolles oft nicht übernommen wird.
Je nach individueller Situation kann es deshalb auch sinnvoll sein zu einer privaten zu wechseln.
Aber wie gesagt: Gesellschaftlich gesehen ist jeder cent den eine relativ gesunde person durch den wechsel zur privaten KV spart, ein Nullsummenspiel.

If you want a theoretical discussion about law philosophy, then maybe you are right.
But this has little connection to reality. And in this case, the intention of proving in a theoretical-philosophical discussion derails from the racist intentions behind these laws. Therefore, why would you want to prove that?
Think this analogy: Now we talk about a law in the US that allows police to shoot immediately when they feel threatened.
Following the theoretical-philosphical logic, this law wouldn't be racist. Because in an "ideal" world heavily armed cops would shoot only the bad guys, right and have no racist bias. But we all know that POCs have a much higher chance to get shot.
again: the lawmakers usually know what they are doing (ok, not always, as there are accidents).
Furthermore, I could imagine that the issue might also have to do with the fact that hairstyle is for some groups more important than others. For white folks, hairstyles can be used to show rebellion (long haired hippies in the 60-70s, punks in th 80-90s).
But then there is this thing of cultural expression and identity that seems a little bit more important for some black folks, wouldn't you agree?
So, when laws about hairstyles are made, you repress both rebellious youth (that chose to have long hair or punk hairstyles to show their disagreement with societal standars, but otherwise could pass as sons and daughters in law) and people from historically oppressed groups that can't hide that see every day they are not part of the dominant (white) society and have their own issues finding their identity. And for some of them, hairstyle is more than just a fashion choice.

Lawmakers are perfectly aware about biases in the executive and judicative. Laws are never the same for everyone, just check if in your country a rich and a poor person receive the same sentences, or even the same probablility of getting controlled by the police (in this case: getting discriminated by wannabe-cop-teachers).
I am not from the US and wondered sometimes why black folks made so much fuss about hairstyles and systemic racism. Now I understand them better...

Das Problem an der Sache ist allerdings, dass es mit der Ausweitung jetzt auch ärmere Viertel trifft, die halt nicht die Kohle für nen Tesla haben.
Public transport innerhalb Londons funktioniert super.
Aus den Städten des Extraradius mit dem Zug zu kommen kann allerdings an einem Tag auch mal schnell 50 £ kosten, so viel wie das Deutschlandticket für einen Monat 😵
Es braucht Carrot&Stick- Massnahmen um das mit der Verkehrswende hinzubekommen, das muss aber sozialverträglich geschehen (ja, ich weiss dass unter schlechter Luftqualität vor allem einkommensschwache Menschen leiden), aber Umweltschutzmassnahmen die sich vor allem gut situierte leisten können und die 'gefühlt' die mittlere Unterschicht treffen, werden dann leicht zu gratis-Support für die Rechten...
Sorry für den realo-Talk. Bei der Sache spielt auch einfach rein dass das Verkehrsministerium den Londoner Bürgermeister angewiesen hat, die Umweltzone zu erweitern um Geld in die Kassen zu spülen. Wenns für Öffis ausgegeben wird, passt es ja langfristig irgendwann wieder...

There seems to be a problem with the way Mastodon handles suspensions (aka defederation, although temporary).
All followings between the two instances are deleted, but not resored when the suspension is lifted and the instances are reconnected.
Moderators/admins have few tools to deal with spam attacks from other servers. It is a lot of work, because when reported, each spam acc needs to be suspended one by one, batch resolution of reports/blocks is not really feasible.
Just imagine, just how a hell of total work hours are caused by these spam accounts: on every instance (currently around 15 k !!), a mod has to invest several clicks for each (ok, not every spamm acc wrote to all instances, but still).
1) Other instances can be *silenced* (like muted: only followers will see the toots). However, the last spam attacks use direct messages (with @ mentions) and these are apparently unaffected by silencing.
2) Other instances can be blocked/suspended/defederated. Spam DMs won't come through, and existing DMs will be deleted.
So the decision is basically: spam protection vs maintaining follower networks.
This time, it sucks if you had important ties to mastodon.social. Because it will be difficult to rebuild them (I am not aware how to export and backup your follower/following lists).
Hopefully, this will be addressed by the devs, as this situation is unbearable. Odds are high that this will be a priority, because the main devs are running mastodon.social.

The Turkish elections might be among the most important ones of this year (in October Pakistani geberal elections are scheduled).
Many autocracies simply don't have this issue: China, Russia, Iran, Saudi Arabia or many others.
In 2024 there will be India and the US.

I feel you. Sometimes I put a lot of effort in a toot and it just dies immediately. This is frustrating, and you probably feel it quite often a day, as you generate a lot of (wonderful) output.
I have several thoughts about this:
1) First thing is the timezones: because of the strict temporal order on Mastodon, it is difficult that your toots arrive people in other timezones or with other Mastodon-activity patterns.
A solution could be to autoboost (automatically ? Somebody should make a script for this...) after 8 or 12 hours.
In your case this seems perfectly valid to me. If somebody doesn't like it, they can mute your boosts but still receive your toots (as you mostly write your own toots and don't rely on boosting other people's messages, the experience would be similar to now).
When I go to your profile page, I see how many toots you made I have missed... (Mastodon toots are pretty ephimeral).
You could do a poll about this whether your followers think that autoboost after X hours is a good idea.
2) you seldom use hashtags. I am not sure whether people use them really, except for really nerdy topics (I, for example, still can't figure out how to filter for multiple hashtags simultaneously, making the feature not very useful). So, I am unsure whether they really add discoverability or not.
3) I usually feel hesitant to boost too frequently about similar topics from the same channel (my reason is, that if somebody of my followers is really interested in the topic, they should follow you directly). This might be a wrong understanding of Mastodon-etiquette, but I can't help (maybe due to cultural-educational trauma, I am always worried about annoying people that follow me 😅).
4) we have to be realistic about thw amount od ACTIVE people on Mastodon. It's growing and I think, at least in English (and some other languages) the critical mass is reached to make it interesting and engaging, but many accs are relatively inactive and for not super mainstream topics there aren't so many people here.
5) we have to be emotionally resilient in media, and even more in social media. Even when a toot is not boosted, it has probably reached hundreds of your followers (not everybody gives stars, sometimes also because they don't want to clog your notifications).
This reach is something we should not forget.
Anyway, thank you for your great work and I hope you find the energy to continue it for a long time (but taking care of your emotional/mental wellbeing, please).

Almost funny is the fact that the so-called 'sustainable bio-fuels' do not really decrease emissions, but deflect public pressure while allowing to maintain the car-centered mobility approach...
Of course, the crypto-fascist sweden democrats hate biofuels because 'bio' sounds hippy-ish and they aim to capture votes from panicked car-lovers scared of effects on their engines.
Crazy how everybody got so fooled...
I do not know if swedish guidelines for the sustainability of biofuels are honest (EU fucked this totally up)... There were hopes for a third generation biofuels, but recently the last of the big companies pulled out of algae-derived biofuel development.
But no love for the fascists :molotov:
