@nprofile…w4zq I've accepted the fact that often times the best tool doesn't match the rest of our desktop. This goes for everyone on every desktop environment and every OS.
It's usually even more the case for pro-level tools too.
None of these* fit in everywhere (or sometimes anywhere), but that's OK:
Kdenlive, Inkscape, Penpot, Figma, GIMP, Blender, VS Code, Photoshop, Illustrator, darktable, Lightroom, Slack, Element, almost all web browsers, and so on.

@nprofile…3kq5 Others have pointed out the option to bypass the trashcan, but you can also still keep using the trashcan and have it auto-delete... even as quickly as 1 hour.
This would let you be able to undo deletion for a short while, and not have to care about emptying the trash; you'd get your disk space back after a little buffer time (or shortcut it with manual emptying).

Meanwhile, Microsoft has been actively supporting their games on Linux, making sure their games that run on Windows run on a Steam Deck, with several Proton and Deck specific fixes and optimizations for so many of their games.
They're making money on their games wherever they can sell them... and that includes on a Steam Deck. (And some of their games even on PS5s too.)

- Spider-Man 2
(There were other games in 2024 I bought and didn't beat yet, like Kitsune Tails and Mario & Luigi: Brothership (Switch)... and some that I beat and enjoyed from years ago, like Final Fantasy V Pixel Remaster.)
I guess I didn't buy so many newly-released games this year, even though I played a lot of games.

Twitter becoming intolerably right-wing propaganda and slop drove most left-wing folks off. But journalists mainly stayed.
The journalists were wallowing in almost exclusively bogus "news", right-wing propaganda, and lots of other nonsense... and their reporting reflected that.
Of course, their billionaire bosses forbid them from posting actual journalism too. (We saw that most publicly with endorsements of Harris being blocked.)
This has an impact. 🙁

Signal Desktop is corrupting its database in some cases, due to an official update.
I wasn't hit by this (yet? thankfully) but my partner had the botched version installed on her desktop, which "upgraded" her database, rendering everything inaccessible.
The latest version "fixes" the issue, apparently, so hopefully most people won't see this and have to re-link (losing all their chats, etc.)

LiveCaptions is great and runs real-time on your computer (even on laptops without a dedicated GPU). It's not perfect, but usually works quite well.

Minor nitpicks:
- Mobile is a little wacky due to the donate button. But I like that the links are all exposed instead of being hidden behind a useless hamburger menu!
- Donate button looks like it might be a selected page in the nav instead of a button.
- It's a little weird to have the GNOME logo duplicated in the nav and right under it.

If projects and products are going to embrace some type of AI, they should consider ethical AI, which would include running locally on device, and being open source (among other things).
Nextcloud actually made a framework for this:

@npub12f7…lkxh While it's a different phone, the app should be the same:
On my Pixel 6 Pro, it's not laggy like that, but it is slow to start and sometimes just doesn't work right anymore with double tapping the power button to launch. (It'll instantly re-lock and while not taking a photo when I tap the screen to take a photo.)
Preview is fine though; must be due to different hardware. But the app is buggy, especially lately.
(And I dislike the recent UI changes.)

Frog is such a neat little Linux desktop app to extract text from images.
You can give it an image (file selector, drag & drop) or let it take a screenshot. And you can even paste an image from your clipboard!
This is great for adding alt text when posting an image or copying text (as text) from a screenshot for sharing (or adding to UI mockups, as I often do).
It also reads QR codes and supports several languages.

@npub1tvq…l6jk I had this problem on both my desktop (running Steam on Silverblue) and Steam Deck...
And found a solution:
Remove the prefix. Launch again and it'll build a new prefix and it'll work again.
This fixed it on my desktop and Steam Deck. Protontricks can find the prefix.
It feels like they usually goof up these Halo updates. 🫤
My wild guess is that it needs a newer version of something (probably EAC?) and it isn't updated? But redoing the prefix sets up the latest version? 🤷

Gunshots, screaming, loading the body in a trunk, car peeling out, police sirens, etc. It was a horrifying night.
It wasn't the only time I heard gunshots in the area, either.
(Not that anywhere else where I lived in the US was so much safer. I had loaded guns pointed at me a few times in other states.)
Number of gun encounters in Europe? 0.

I saved on every platform on that same stretch. (When I saved on a jumpy thing, reloading put me back at a platform, however.)
I also fell *a lot* on the Rito quest. 😅
