@npub1g0t…tvm4 I know, but saying most developed countries globally are rubbish in terms of GDP per capita, doesn’t acknowledge how wide the wealth gap has been allowed to expand in my country of birth in my lifetime. I think we do have to hold our national politicians accountable. If we don’t address it on a national level, how will ever do so globally?

@npub1g0t…tvm4 i don’t want to completely diminish the significance of potentially returning the Elgin Marbles…but it feels a bit like a stream compared to the wide open seas that should be possible on every subject conceivable between Labour and the Tories.
But could be opening gambit on getting UK to acknowledge the harm done as a result of the British Imperial past? Could paying reparations, teaching the real facts about the Empire in school and returning all the loot be next?

I remember years ago thinking instead of yet another kids history book about the terrible Tudors, the origins of WW1 or ancient Egyptians, what kids really need is one that explains the conflicts in the Middle East, specifically one that focuses on Israel and Palestine.
I don’t know how you would tell this story from an entirely neutral perspective or which publisher would touch it with a barge poll…but mass failure to understand this conflict for generations has led us to this abyss.

Saying I really liked The Change by Bridget Christie probably invites people to assume I’m menopausal, but what I actually liked is it makes the future less scary for women of any age approaching this phase of their life, while acknowledging those who have been through it.
The writing was also really sharp and relevant on so many issues other than menopause: climate change, capitalism, gender identity and the town/country divide.
