His popularity slipped underwater that fall and never recovered. In this election, the margin of victory will be small. Biden could squeak by by holding PA, VA and NC. Or Trump could flat out steal two states (GA and WI) and be back in power. The trauma that this nation is going to suffer will be immeasurable.

Harris was going to be the attack dog who would appeal to Gen X (me) and Millennials and remind us of the housing crisis, debut crisis, freedom crisis. But she had to break ties in the Senate for two full years. She couldn't move around. And the White House started to blame her for things. It was and continues to be bizarre. She was sent to the border to look at something no president has ever fixed...

But as @npub1hrm…ynax said, once it was clear that Trump was running (despite basically smashing the White House, Congress and us on his way out the door), the party leaders and Bided decided that it was best for Boden to stay. There are pros and cons with this. Pros: incumbents can win if the economy is strong and the incumbent is popular. Cons: incumbents always get fewer votes in the re-election bid. Fewer still, if they are unpopular.

For hundreds of millions of people, last summer is the last comfortable summer they will ever experience again. The SARS-Cov-2 pandemic continues, and is evolving. And the minority party in the US is now taking civil liberties away. Pundits can lament the changes all they want in the pages of the WaPo and The Atlantic. Won't matter.

There was this acknowledgement that Romney was going to lose to Obama (Ann Colter's famous "Romney will lose!" speech). But that would be OK, because the GOP had a plan to burn the republic down. @npub1xpc…3t05 It's pretty clear he doesn't qualify under the 14th Amendment, Section 3. The delay and confusion is brewing over who can step forward and declare him disqualified? It is Congress? Is it the Supreme Court? Is it State Legislatures? Is it the state Secretaries of State? Seems everyone needs to make a move and let this play through the courts. It appears that the authors of the Amendment thought that Congress should bar people in the certification process.

@npub1xpc…3t05 Agreed. I'm bullish she has the perfect answer to that. The nation has a vital interest in this case. 6 months form the indictment is not too quick for a criminal conspiracy case. The defendant is going to appeal at every step, so there will be procedural delays as they go regardless. And the Florida case is just going to be delayed over and over. A case has to go first. I think this is the one.

@npub1xpc…3t05 Chutkan is going to be firm. Maybe she'll come back with March 1. But this trial must have a verdict before election day. That is crucial, in her view. She knows the Florida trial is being pushed to 2025, or dropped. And she doesn't give a rat's ass about Trump's campaigning. No one is forcing him to run for president. She has tried at least two other J6 cases. She doesn't want this to slide. I think she takes the date.

@npub1xpc…3t05 I think Judge Chutkan takes that date. After all, any date prior to Christmas would be the jury selection process. So why not January 2, similar to the Proud Boys case this year? There is almost no classified information in this trial. It's fairly straightforward. A competent defense legal team would be ready in time. So why not make this the first big trial? I predict it can have the jury selected in 4 weeks and the trial done in another 8-12. Four months tops.
