A couple years ago, a "Web 2.0 Facelift" not only made their site-wise search a lot more simple-minded (if it's not on the metadata it doesn't exist), but also somehow invalidated search engine results for some reason and they disappeared from search engines
That I'd like to be able to sue over too

I only got my money back on it bc the manager was on duty and I'd read this for the first time earlier that day, so I checked within 10 minutes
They still didn't know how to settle the refund with corporate, as in this scam the card's funds were gone already. But they wanted me as a customer enough that they chose to make it their problem and refunded me anyway
At a big box store, this would not have happened

@npub1jvr…8tkt I have hit this as well, and currently believe it actually does go to sleep... but has so many triggers in the kernel to wake, it doesn't stay
My faith comes from the janky procedure I use to make it really sleep (e.g. based on battery charging rate):
1. Turn off Wi-Fi
2. Using an external keyboard and mouse (this is a laptop), click sleep
3. After mouse release but before display blank, unplug the USB hub for those peripherals
Then it will stay asleep until USB is plugged in again

According to reddit, there's a solution!
Go into the Smart TV or Cable Box, and lock out Fox News (and OAN if applicable) with a code
If you deny all knowledge long enough -- "it just did that one day!" -- then eventually she'll sigh and switch to CNN
Then slowly but surely, she'll get get de-programmed and start complaining about things that are real problems in the world instead of RW fantasy land

@npub1yrl…8gpm this thread actually digs up an old memory of my like 3rd personal program written in Rust
In order to get better asm, I had to hack the config.toml to pass -march=skylake to the clang backend in the compiler
If I didn't, it was going for the lowest common denominator x86_64 -- which is extremely low
In particular, *most of SSE* is not guaranteed because of the very first Intel chips which copied AMD's Hammer, I think it was?
But I agree that should be unnecessary by now

Then again, that was C++ rather than C, so maybe it's the front end?
