@npub18jt…g6eg Such awesome birds. I was up near Mt Baker hiking last week and heard dozens and dozens of them. But didn't see a single one- they're like that, for a bird so brightly colored they sure know how to hide.

Final preparations underway for the garden tour. I was out at 6 AM (happy belated solstice everyone) and took some snaps. This is a large container I got this year, with an Aralia in it. That's a Heuchera at the bottom; the yellow flowers on the right are Jerusalem sage.

@npub1fpe…th5v @npub1ag7…hc82 There are concrete, achievable steps you can take right now to slow the insect apocalypse. Leave your autumn leaves in place. Or rake them aside beneath a garden hedge, don’t trash them. Don’t cut your flowers down, but leave the dead plants standing till spring. Insects— nearly all beneficial—use this habitat as shelter. Reduce your lawn in favor of diverse perennial plant species. Stop using pesticide sprays.

I did a hike the other day into the Glacier Peak wilderness in the North Cascades. This is one of the most isolated and untouched regions of the lower 48 states, and it’s spectacular. I always stop and look at plants, and it’s wildflower season. So here’s a thread of some amazing flora.
