My original umbrel on RPi4 failed, but then I went with an OrangePi5 w/16GB ram and configured to boot from an M.2 rather than the SD card. Been running great with the Orange Pi so far and can handle more load. Problem now is Umbrel updated their OS again so I do need to reconfigure for that when I have time. Not a priority though.

This isn't shitcoinery. It's a legit method to possibly evolve the ecosystem. With that said though, I agree that there needs to always be actual sats backing any ecash transaction. Also need redundancy in the ecash mints. Could there be a way maybe to require ecash mints be in clusters of 4. So that the (4) in the cluster are each clones of one another. With the sats being held in a multisig wallet, so that 2 of the 4 mint clones hold the same multisig key and the other 2 mint clones hold the other multisig key. I guess this would make it a separate layer 2 network completely separate from lightning though.

Been saying this for a while. There is a significant fire hazard with EV's due to the lithium batteries. 1st you can have thermal runaway where you damage the battery puncturing it etc causing the conductive layers to short inside the cell. 2nd is the lithium itself. If water comes in contact with lithium you have an exothermic reaction creating lithium oxide and releasing hydrogen. It's exothermic meaning it gets increasingly hot as the chemical reaction occurs. The heat + hydrogen being released is not a good combo.

Culturally I would say yes, but politically I would say no. In terms of the political viewpoint that term mostly harks back to the cold war era as far as whether a country was part of or aligned with the soviet union. Those that were aligned with the SU were part of the eastern bloc and those that weren't were part of the western bloc and part of NATO. Brazil like most of South America though kinda remained neutral from that standpoint (from my understanding at least).

I agree with what you wrote. I think now that he made the investment into buying twitter as well he wouldn't support anything that would undermine twitters control over the space. As far as bitcoin goes... I think there might be a little bit of narcissism there in that he didn't know about it early and so he's trying to prop up dogecoin instead so he can feel he had a hand in its success or something. He definitly likes to have first hand control over things... kinda like Steve Jobs.

Just had that happen. Got a 2TB drive in from Amazon yesterday so I had to shut my umbrel node down to clone my 1TB drive to the 2TB. Worked fine.. just had to fix the partition with gparted to get the full 2TB recognized. Anyways.. my node was down all night due to the cloning and sure enough I fire it up and 2 channels remote closed.

I think it's always been possible, but never heard a public admission that they can take control of the phone without consent. I know cops in the states have used Stingray since like the 90's. That's different though as that is a man-in-the-middle attack where they pose as a cell tower and re-direct your calls through their stingray device.

I know... and that's the problem of it. I wish they built it using BTC to incentivize the nodes instead. I'm not a programmer, but if I was, I would look at what kind of effort would be involved to fork that code and modify it to where it runs on lightning nodes (like an umbrel node). The incentivizing structure would have to change though to something like a pay as you use (x amount of sats per MB for example) and those funds get dispersed to the nodes routing your traffic.

There is also Lokinet. No need for a special browser if installing on PC and you can also set up an armbian device like raspberry pi to be a wifi access point to give you acces to their onion routed network. I can vouch that it's way faster than Tor. You need to use the Linux build though as that is always the best supported one.

Well the way THEY currently have their network setup they do need their shitcoin (OXEN) as it is what allows the nodes that route sessions messages to join their network, however I agree the technology they created with session & lokinet could be ported and modified to be coinless or use bitcoin as the coin to incentivize the nodes that route the traffic. It would probably require a pay as you use type incentivized structure and would need to be either a sidechain or layer off the bitcoin network. Incidently it is their shitcoin that is holding their technology back too because it has no value proposition.

To me I don't see the need for burning bitcoin to create the space chain token or locking bitcoin to give to miners at a future date like he mentions?? I've always enjoyed peter schiff's insights and I acknowledge that he is one of the main people who opened my eyes a long time ago to the problems with our monetary system. His book "How an economy grows and why it crashes" is so simply explained that a grade schooler could read and understand it. It's just too bad he doesn't have a complete understanding of bitcoin's value yet. I think it will come, but will further down the road.
