In the past two days I met one man who is the only Trump supporter among his 4 brothers and sisters, the rest of whom are Harris voters; met another man who told me he and his wife hate Trump but that his brother is “like a cult member” for him.

A very special friend of mine was, long ago, my teacher. After the #Harris #Walz rally today, I had to phone him, of course. I’ve been reading about Trump’s performance in Georgia today. According to the Washington Post, his advisers didn’t want him to spend all his time attacking Kemp and instead wanted him to focus on attacking Harris’s policies. If accurately reported, the most telling thing about this is how absurd the “advisers” are. Trump is not changing. He isn’t a regular candidate of a legitimate political party. He’s a criminal would-be authoritarian, desperate to avoid prison. 1/

I am continuing my efforts to contact keep people in digital, outreach, and elsewhere in the Harris campaign. Eventually, I will get through, I’m sure. I’d like to have a list ready of qualified volunteers who could assist the campaign in understanding Mastodon and the Fediverse, setting up and maintaining an instance, and so forth. Depends on how it is used. I don't think a political campaign should depend on it exclusively. But I think they could simultaneously post content here and on other platforms, break some or all news here first (which would draw more users). I also think that a major campaign with its own Mastodon instance or account could be part of making Mastodon more mainstream and that itself would be good publicity for the campaign.

The rules are set by the campaign - every political campaign may decide to reject contributions from certain sources. I believe Harris is committed to the ban on fossil fuel execs contributing. She has a long record of fighting for the climate and for environmental justice.
