#Accessibility fail: Authy (2FA app) update replaced service names with logos, which are quite small. Can't zoom in the app and taking a screenshot failed, probably some security measure. I had to get a physical magnifying glass and in some cases look up services to check logo plausibility. Then I edited the strings to insert the service names. This should not have been that hard! And now I wonder how the blind do 2FA; will an app that impedes visual access work with a screen reader?

I don't know more than what's in this post, but: #cat owners, there's now a quasi-legal (in US) treatment for #FIP which was previously always fatal. One of my cats died from FIP way before his time and there was nothing we could do. Today, maybe we could. The post includes a link to a compounding pharmacy that vets can order from. FDA said in May they won't go after people for this; the post says also available in UK, Australia, Netherlands, and (by petition) Canada.

I wondered today, while (as usual) failing to manage my Fediverse feed, whether the kind of simple customization Usenet had back in the day could help with the faster-moving world of Mastodon. Specifically, I'm talking about how we used "killfiles" for both opt-out and opt-in. I guess it was sort of like procmail but for newsgroups not email. This is a broad question, but also one that must have been addressed many times in the field of #sociology at least. Anecdotal answers and gut feelings are easy, but can anybody provide a research-based answer to this question about direct versus indirect #conflict resolution in #communities? What have studies shown to be the key factors in deciding how to proceed? What are good entry points for someone who wants to learn more?

"Imagine that black students at Columbia were taunted: Go back to Africa. Or imagine that a gay student was surrounded by homophobic protesters and hit with a stick at Yale University. Or imagine if a campus imam told Muslim students that they ought to head home for Ramadan because campus public safety could not guarantee their security. There would be relentless fury."
The double standard is disgusting if unsurprising. University leaders are complicit in the violence.

Does anyone know how to do a complete data dump (not a restore) from #icloud ? I just want to scoop up the stuff my dad had there and put it on a disk, without doing any Mac-specific operations.

I contacted #Glassdoor support for an account issue. They *used the info from my email headers* to add my *real name* to my profile, against my wishes, and refuse to remove it. Their own data policy says consent can be withdrawn - guess that actually means "you can delete your account", not rectification.
GD used to be useful. Then as they moved to trying to be social media they were less useful but still ok. Now, I'll be deleting this account as soon as my data download goes through. Ugh.

I've wondered this too: if I want my web site to outlast me, how would I go about setting that up? (I was thinking more like 20-50 years, but that's a detail. No idea if the web will exist in 100 years.)
