As for safety, one could have a no-quoting flag on their account. However, that could be bypassed by determined users so I'm not sure its worth it.
Generally, blocking should have an effect on quote posts by not showing the nested (quoted) part.

I wonder what other filesystem bloat Apple might have induced to enhance their cloud market share.

EFF often has a clear view of what's wrong, but their practice and practical advice leaves a lot to be desired. They write articles about how adtech should be destroyed, then release a browser plugin that attempts to block trackers without blocking ads.

Honestly, I don't know whose problem your underdog solves. If I lived near any of the disaster zones popping up all over the globe, I'd be kind of embarrassed to harp on it. A side-note about some authors not realizing the difference between analysis and training would have been less of an over-reaction to the over-reaction.
Also... if you want to see the result of making text appealing by algorithm, look at the pop music industry which used less energy-hungry tools to accomplish the same thing a generation ago. You can tune into current game shows with young 20-30yo contestants and watch how they know 70s and 80s music better than 2000s and even 2010s. But writers can get similar results if they climb into the higher-wattage, extended-cab Humvee version that. The result is addictive content that isn't as memorable (or as note-worthy, it seems).

I could cite things like Amazon's price war against authors, while enforcing draconian copyright measures for their own benefit. But that is now mirrored across the creative spectrum and might as well be called simply "class war". Now mechanized.
But fear not, there are still plenty of very dirty, dangerous jobs for us that capital's robots won't be assigned to do.
I don't think Orwell imagined the end of the creative class in quite this way, but it seems like the result is going to match his vision in Nineteen-eighty-four.

The mantra back in the day was that the Linux desktop had to be un-like Apple and Microsoft in every way possible. The mindset was that wrong licensing also implied wrong design. That initiative is a famous and endlessly irritating failure.
I see some of the same thought process and hubris in this thread.
Unless you have some blockbuster new ideas just itching to fly from your fingertips into your IDE, I'd say that imitating popular birdsite features is a solid strategy, esp. if they are simple to implement & resource-saving (as QTs are) and mainly being withheld on principle.
