I know I posted this photo of Little Zig Zag creek near Mount Hood before.

… I never trust people who try to act as if catching a nice big fish is no big deal for a sportsman of their stature. After all, fishing is nothing more than the often successful search for something genuine in a world where we're increasingly comfortable with things like coffee “creamer” that is guaranteed to contain no actual dairy products.

There is only one more fishing trip planned for this year. It's not been the fishing season I wanted.
Besides the truck transmission problem that postponed the Canada trip for a year, weather, schedule conflicts, and health issues kept me from getting on the water as much as I usually do.
Life happend.
Photos and memories from past outings will.carry me through to next spring.

I try to be mindful of my motivation when I go off alone. I mean if you are weary, sick but still ambulatory, fed up, overworked, angry, frustrated, heartbroken, need to think thigs over or need to stop thinking things over for a while you should definitely go fishing, and you should probably go alone so you don't bother anyone. But then fishing, like all human pleasures, is better done when it is out of love than when it is done as a painkiller.

I do most of my solitary fishing near home. Sometimes I run out to a bluegill pond or local lake for a few hours; someplace where I may well run into someone I know and that's usually OK. It's usually OK if we end up fishing together for the afternoon then meet somewhere for supper. In the long run, fishermen are better company than most. If nothing else, most of them don't feel obliged to fill up normal moments of silence with meaningless chatter.

We had a loon follow us under water when we moved about 3/4 of a mile to a different spot. Definitely the same loon as it was immature and acted the same close to the boat.
Our lodge owner said they will follow the bubble trail produced by the outboard motor.
Beavers just slap their tails around us. 😄

Tallahassee daughter and family won't get the storm surge but are supposed to get 130 mph winds.
In 2018, they were going to flee to Dothan, AL. They found a hotel room about a mile from their house and rode it out locally. Dothan took the hit.
Last I heard from her, they weren't sure where they were going.

I'm not here to tell anyone what their attitude about fishing should be. Way back in high school I was often told my attitude was unacceptable and once I even blurted out what I was thinking; that they could tell me what to do but my attitude was my own and none of their business. I still believe that, even after a stern lecture from the principal about the bleakness of my future “with an attitude like that.”

Cold science tells us a trout's pea sized brain is not capable of reason or emotion. That's probably true enough, but in the defense of creative thinking, I have a comment and a question: actions speak louder than words, and if they are so dumb, how come they can be so hard to catch?

Years ago, I went on a solo fishing/camping trip in the Driftless Area of SW Wisconsin.
The weather turned. Misty with fog and bone chilling cold. I was hunkered down on the shore, waiting for a hit. In the distance geese were calling and they were flying toward me.
Three geese in formation came out of the fog, flying right over me, a few feet above my head. I could hear the air flow through their beating wings.

Years ago a brother in law & I fished a some limestone pits next to the old Illinois and Michigan canal. The path is public and we thought all the pits were public, too.
We sat on rocks on the edge of the 3rd pit, when we hear from a loudspeaker "FISHERMEN AT THE NORTHWEST CORNER THIS IS PRIVATE PROPERTY. LEAVE IMMEDIATELY!"
We look at each other puzzled.
Another announcement, and we see the house and speakers.
We decided to move on.

I can't believe this.
Near Chippawa Falls, Wi without warning the transmission went out on the truck. We had the truck and boat towed to a Chevy dealer. I will get an official diagnosis tomorrow about the transmission, but they know whatever the problem is, they can't complete the repair until at least late Monday.
My daughter in law is now en route from northern Illinois to pick us up. No big trip to Canada this year.

I'm out on the Studio / Baitshop getting ready for the big trip next week.
I prep three rods (x 2). A 6'-6" medium light for walleye, a 7'-0" med light for bass and pike, and 6'-6" medium for pike. Of course, the fish don't know this, but I try to use the appropriate rod for the area we are working.
Cubs game on the radio keeps me company.
And, no, I don't catch the bass and northern on the wall. They are wood carvings. 😄

I do not use any presets. I have "zeroed out" every behind the image adjustments and only use the lens correction as a preset. I want the final output to be mine.
This may not be efficient for pros (I am not) who take a lot of similar images, such as weddings.
