If you were at home during the day in the 1980s, it was hard not to get sucked into an episode of “Donahue,” watch for a bit, and maybe become a devoted viewer. A new law has come into effect in Florida stating that if you create or sell lab-grown meat, you might face a second-degree misdemeanor charge, which is punishable by up to 60 days in jail or a $500 fine. Several other states including Alabama, Tennessee and Arizona are attempting to follow suit. Hayden's attorney argues that Take-Two "painstakingly copied" the designs. Take-Two's team says that James' tattoos are a very small part of NBA 2K, and that James has licensed his own likeness to Take-Two, so a ruling in favor of Hayden would mean James would have to ask Hayden for permission to license his own being. Two men who sued Universal because they rented "Yesterday" on the basis of a trailer that showed Ana de Armas, only to find she had been cut from the film, have settled their false advertising lawsuit. Peter Rosza and Conor Woulfe alleged they had been cheated out of $3.99 each. A federal judge initially sided with them but they were left on the hook for $126,705 legal fees. The American Library Association announced last month that book-banning attempts have reached record highs, and yesterday, it released a report detailing the most challenged books in the country. "Gender Queer: A Memoir" by Maia Kobabe tops the list, which is dominated by books about LGBTQ folk and people of color. “More and more, we’re seeing challenges that say, simply, ‘This book has a gay character,’ or, ‘This book deals with LGBTQ themes,’ even if it has no sexuality in it,” Deborah Caldwell-Stone, the director of the ALA’s office for intellectual freedom, says. “We’re seeing those naked attacks on simply the visibility of and knowledge about LGBTQ lives and experiences.” Here's more from Smithsonian Magazine.
