Here’s a thought: Universal Basic Hosting. State-funded, limited web hosting for all citizens (or however you want to define eligibility). Enough space and bandwidth to get your stuff out there - if you need more you can pay for it, or move to a commercial host.

Of course, functioning tech will only get you so far. I thought I’d do a test video of me loading the compost bay today which resulted in 22 timelapse photos, none of which show anything interesting happening. Check the settings, m’dudes. Check the settings.

I often, justifiably, bitch about modern tech being shite, so it’s only right I share my delight at digging a ten year old GoPro out of the cupboard, getting it some new batteries from eBay and finding it works perfectly well. Even the phone pairing app, which has been “upgraded” with all manner of nonsense, still works with it.
There is hope.

@npub1se6…cmph My theory (and I have no evidence) is a lot of early Mastodon adopters are from groups that have struggled to fit into mainstream spaces, and this space worked for them in a very empowering way, so they’re extra protective of it now we’re all piling in. That doesn’t stop them being awful bores, but I’m happy to be empathetic to their needs (while I ignore them).

It’s a tricky one as “The Co-op” does support a lot of co-op development activities and the co-op movement is a very broad church, but there’s an ocean between my worker-coop and the corner shop up the road. :)

The tragedy of such a piece of work would be that Lucier was (in my reading) attempting to manifest the acoustic resonance of the room itself by using the iterative depredations of tape recording to flatten out meaning from his voice. Doing this with generative AI would reveal something, but it won’t be as prosaic, I’m certain.

@npub15rt…gl0v If you long-press on the volume bar in control centre it brings up a bigger bar with fine controls. I use it a lot to get the quietest possible volume for late night music.
