As I understand it, this is also only an Apple ecosystem problem, otherwise I could set a different app as my text messaging default and use it to do things like filter and ignore via regex.

@nprofile…p3s2 I think my regex code is probably just as robust. This definitely isn't a supported use case. Of serde_yaml, and is for sure an abuse of these trait bounds. It works...but it also might break in unexpected ways.
Maybe opening up an issue and asking for a supported way to read multiple documents, possibly behind a feature flag. Or maybe there's already an issue on it.

@nprofile…e6fs I’ve not used it either (for the same reason) but I read about comptime from Mitchell’s blog https://mitchellh.com/writing/zig-comptime-conditional-disable.
Coming from Ruby, I miss being able to write Ruby that writes Ruby in any context. I don’t necessarily need that level of flexibility, but proc macros seem both ubiquitous and like a weird escape valve pseudo language within a language.

After hearing about Zig compliment kinda wish Rust had something like that too. You can do stuff with macros at compile time but it’s not intuitive or easy and requires learning new code dialects and rules.

@npub1llv…9xqz same. I hate this cycle though. Finding a new bar because my fave spot became a Nazi bar feels like I’m ceding ground. But staying feels like endorsing/subsidizing.
I’m also thinking of this in geographic state terms as I come to grips with the reality that Texas is driving out Dems with more extreme policies as some kind of twisted gerrymandering.

Kinda felt like a slow train to nowhere. Lots of drawn out seemingly meaningless scenes. The guy who eats people while they are still alive haunts my dreams and apparently for no good reason?
Horza kills people then dies. Not sure what it all was about. Seems like it could have been a short story instead of a novel. Am I completely missing something deeper?

@npub1znr…y892 good idea. I 100% do this for shows or movies people recommend that I might not ever see. Particularly horror. I didn’t care for squid game but it seemed important to the cultural zeitgeist to understand it beyond episode one.
Could be good for this use case.

When I do form filling, it's ADHD friendly to have something interesting happening in the background. But so many modern shows do a lot of visual-only storytelling.
I need a "distracted audio" option for movies/shows. Not quite a full on "audio description" but more like a kids show where the narrator re-describes crucial plot points that only otherwise occur visually onscreen.
My workaround is to put on something I've already seen so I won't get lost.

I lost the code to a lock box.
It was either $30 for a new one and a few minutes with an angle grinder or…order a new pick for $20 and try my luck à la lockpicking lawyer.
I chose option B and it was ultra satisfying when it popped open.

@npub1ay2…yhap that error is more of a developer error than a user error. As a matter of principal I feel developer ergonomics around errors should be as cared for as user errors.
Also the builpack.toml and internals could accidentally diverge and allow that invalid state to happen. This specific example might be not that common but if it happens I want the error to be clear.
The other example I gave is more likely to occur.

So far my options are:
- Write a proc macro that tries to reverse engineer the format and generate the literal code tokens suggested above.
Would work, but overly coupled and might diverge from format! features in the future. Non trivial implementation investment.
- Use a const macro to replace the format string literal.
Pretty hacky, doesn't handle case where `fn custom_fmt` needs to do more logic. Even handling curly escapes might be elusive.
- Any other ideas?

I want to provide a format! like macro that applies a specific formatting to whatever **values** are provided to the macro. For example

// => format!("Meet {}", custom_fmt(dog))

// => format!("Meet {}", custom_fmt(dog))
format!("Meet {dog}", dog = animal)
// => format!("Meet {dog}", dog = custom_fmt(animal))

I can define a const easilly enough, but then I want a way to iterate over all the consts within some given scope.
I can separately add it to a const array, but that requires me to remember for every new item added and it's not easy or intuitive to code a test that would catch mistakes. I'm thinking maybe something with macros could make this easier. I'm wondering if there's prior art here or maybe I'm missing something super simple.

A thing I do in Ruby is to store a global list of valid options, then when provided a value, I iterate or select one from the list. If it's not there I include the valid list in the error output.
> Invalid option "yolo", must be one of: "lol", "rofl", or "lmfao"
I want to do this with Rust, but it's less obvious how in a way that doesn't add a ton of complexity.

I'm not sure how you would do it but: Ratio of query time versus constructing Ruby objects time. Basically: Don't just be careful of slow queries, be careful of queries that return a large amount of data.

@npub17gd…a8lw there is a whole subfield dedicated to it. Human Computer Interaction (HCI) was by far my favorite graduate CS class.
Unfortunately I felt a majority of students saw it as “easy-ish A” instead of actually learning and digging into the materials and techniques.
