I've used two brands recently.
Foundation Passport is nice. If you only need cold storage for yourself, it's great. Probably a great solution overall. Especially if you want to scan QR codes, it is excellent.
Coldcard Q. This is my favorite because it fully supports BIP-85, which are child seeds derived from the master seed. The BIP-85 feature supports exporting as many xpubs as you wish, for watch-only wallets. This is great if you are being an Uncle Jim to members of your family. All the child seeds are backed up in the Coldcard. The QR scanner is not compatible with most software wallets though. So I transfer psbt's via sd card, which always works.

I learned this lesson later in my working years, as I'm 60 now, and until I got a Class B CDL and started driving a truck 5 years ago, my career had always been in B2B sales, mostly in advertising and wireless comms. I had to be plugged in all the time. I hated it. Now I make great money and when I'm not on the job, it's not on the radar at all. So much better this way, and I would not go back into all that stress for almost any amount of money. Almost. 😁

Your point is ONLY true with STOCK Pixels. I recommended a non-carrier Pixel that has an unlockable bootloader, and I recommended that GrapheneOS be installed on it. This makes the Pixel absolutely as bulletproof and hardened as you're ever going to get with a smartphone. I think you either didn't read my comment fully, or you're unfamiliar with how to harden a smartphone. Either way, your comment as posted is false.

Never heard of it. But hiding an APK file is unusual. I highly recommend getting a Pixel phone (non-carrier) and flashing GrapheneOS on it. They're not as fast as the Samsungs, but they're as secure as you want to make them and very reliable. Just an idea of you're in a position to switch out.

There are very few people that I know, family members included, who have the initiative to learn new skills. It drives me crazy. I'm managing the private keys for 4 members of my family (excluding my wife) because they are older and just can't understand it. If left to do it on their own, all their Bitcoin would remain on exchanges. Most people are either too responsible, lazy, or both, to either learn self-custody or to not lose their key. It's no excuse, but it is the reality. Centralization as dumbed down the common consumer and incentivized laziness for decades, and it won't be easily reversed.
