There are very few people that I know, family members included, who have the initiative to learn new skills. It drives me crazy. I'm managing the private keys for 4 members of my family (excluding my wife) because they are older and just can't understand it. If left to do it on their own, all their Bitcoin would remain on exchanges. Most people are either too responsible, lazy, or both, to either learn self-custody or to not lose their key. It's no excuse, but it is the reality. Centralization as dumbed down the common consumer and incentivized laziness for decades, and it won't be easily reversed.
