Mediocrity is insidious. It sneaks up on you slowly and infiltrates your consciousness. Much as small amounts of poison built up subtly in the blood over time are not noticeable, so mediocrity builds into your character and you may not notice its effects until it’s too late. There is an antidote to the poison that grips so many, and it is the only one that has any lasting effect. The antidote is excellence.
Life is always pushing against you, rubbing you up the wrong way, challenging you. It can get to be so overwhelming at times that the temptation not to stand against it becomes very strong. Ease is a desirable state to crave and the harder life seems the more attractive it is. The mistake you can make is to equate average with enjoyment, as if by being mediocre your life will be better. This common misconception that by not trying, life becomes more enjoyable, is perpetuated by more people than you’d care to admit.  Some people espouse this ethos of mediocre living with evangelical zeal. According to them life is about taking the easy way out, just doing enough, and always chasing the good times. The fruit of such a philosophy is evident to everyone around them, except themselves. They are degrading into less of an inspiration with each year that goes by, yet remain convinced they are winning in life. Such is the nature of man, it is easier to see the results of mediocrity in others than it is in yourself.   If you consider society at large you can see the poison of mediocre thought and action seeping its way into civilisation. Corners are cut, shortcuts taken, and challenges avoided. Socialist governments encourage this as mediocre people are dependent on them for support and this offers the excuse needed to print money and take control. Welfare is more commonly used to support people living mediocre lives than it is used to help those desperately in need.  When you live in mediocrity you will seek out activities that help you accept your own lack of purpose and drive. The poison that is eroding your desire for excellence will push you to numb yourself with things that help you feel good in the short term. Symptoms of the poison include the desire to feel less; escape pain, avoid struggle and remove risk. To achieve without work, have thoughts without thinking, and live without meaning. If you are experiencing these symptoms consider that you may have lapsed into mediocrity.  There is a way out. It is difficult, and there are no shortcuts. You must look with clarity at your life, with brutal honesty at each component of what makes up your character. Your thoughts, feelings, health, relationships, work, and finances. Where are you allowing mediocrity to seep in and poison yourself? If you can identify it and acknowledge that you alone are responsible for allowing the average to become the norm, then you can reverse the effects and begin striving for excellence.  The pursuit of excellence has the opposite effect on your life. It will also infiltrate your consciousness and shape your character but in a totally different way. Its effects are powerful and revolutionary on the way you think, act and behave. It will positively improve your thoughts, feelings, health, relationships, work, and finances because in each of these areas you will be embracing pain, struggle, challenge and risk. You will know that these are the instruments of your perfection and only through the refining of yourself in the crucible of life can the poison of mediocrity be flushed from your system. There is no other way.  Look around you at the life you are creating for yourself. Is it mediocre or is it excellent? Where are you letting yourself off, where is your character falling short, where could you do better?  When you take the easy path you repeatedly swallow the poison of mediocrity, and if left long enough it will kill your drive to life the life you deserve. Stop expecting life to be average, and you will level up accordingly. Make excellence your life ambition and stand against the tide of degradation that is sweeping through our culture like a tsunami. Be the best you can.

Men are becoming physically weak, devolving in a lot of cases. Round shouldered, pot bellied and soft. The most obvious area being poor posture.
Look around at the men slowly returning to ape state, but without the strength and muscularity. Heads jutting forward, shoulders rounding in, buttocks underdeveloped, flat weak handshakes, and flabby faces devoid of a jawline.
Men used to prepare for battle, hunting, protecting their families. Most of this is obsolete for the modern times and so men live vicariously through the battles and victories of actors on the screen, or worse, through pretending to be a hero on a game where the only muscles used are the ones in the thumbs. What a joke.
Modern men sit at computers, eat soft food that requires no chewing, watch porn instead of physically satisfying their partners, and forget to hold themselves erect with pride in their masculinity.
The result is major postural degradation that affects the breathing, nervous system, connective tissue, and confidence. Men don’t realise what it says to other men and women when they display this poor posture.
In order to prevent this devolution physically it requires men to acknowledge that physical posture is an important signal to the world about their sense of pride and capability. Allowing themselves to collapse anteriorly and be pulled down by gravity is obvious weakness. Strength is necessary to stand against the inexorable pull of physical degradation.
Stand up tall, train the back and core, open the chest, breathe deeply and be proud of the physical body. Look at these Costa Rican coffee farmers from the 19th Century, proud and strong men.
There is a lot to be learnt from their posture.

I was homeschooled from 6 till 9 years old. Approximately 4 years.
The reasons they took me out were primarily behavioural. I was very controlled by my Mum and due to being naturally curious, experimental and rebellious I clashed with her. I took out my frustrations at school where I felt I could express myself more. The school did not approve and my parents decided it was better to have me at home with my younger siblings where with The Lords help they could keep a closer eye on me.
Needless to say the issues with Mum only increased. We fought a lot. She was stressed and I needed space from her. It was volatile and in the end she was physically abusive.
She was also quite a good teacher and I enjoyed the curriculum which was Christian and from the US (I grew up in New Zealand). I loved the US history, especially the pioneering history and folklore. My Dad to sight me to question things and work with my hands (as well as constant Bible study). Mum taught me a love of the body, and science and nourished my physically with amazing food.
I played with my younger brother and sisters all the time and was allowed pretty free reign to explore and hurt myself. There were lots of good times too although I’m highly social and missed school. In the end I went back as Mum was not the right teacher for me and I needed more social time.
I loved school. Especially the practical subjects like wood work, art, and creative writing. I loved having girls in my class too and I made life long friends between ages 9 and 14.
School was good, homeschool was a great foundation. I liked the blend.
Currently have pulled out kids out of the education system and are travelling with all 4 of them. We are two month into World Schooling and considering keeping it going for a while. The online resources like Khan academy are amazing.

Evolution is uncomfortable.
External pressures place stress upon organisms and only those under intense stress face pressure great enough to cause new adaptations.
In order to evolve to a new state something must first get very uncomfortable and desperate.
So it is with our spiritual evolution. We are on the cusp of a new way of living. It’s opaque as to exactly what it is we are becoming because we have not yet crossed the chasm on mass. All we know is that the pressure on us to evolve is mounting fast.
We have a choice now. Try to surrender enough to feel into where life is pushing us to adapt, or struggle against the shift, resisting it and intensifying our pain.
It seems like all of society is burdened by the old ways. Most people are clinging to the past and doubling down on fear, doubt, greed and control. You can see it in their eyes, posture, and behaviour. People are afraid.
Yet there are others, a growing minority who can feel these same pressures and understand it’s a spiritual push we are feeling. The push to evolve and mature as a species. They are choosing a different path, one of love over fear and freedom over control. You can see it in their eyes, posture, and behaviour. These people are full with hope, and pregnant with possibility.
We are being squeezed through the eye of the needle. At Christ said, “With man things are impossible, but with God all things are possible.”
It’s a divine push. We must relax into it.

You cannot see what isn’t working when you are still working in it.  I believe that most people only get a complete fresh start a handful of times in their life. For some it is forced upon them by their parents; hardship, divorce, a natural disaster or a health scare. For others it is a conscious choice to make a clean break.  Regardless of why, I define a complete reset as a letting go and cutting off of the old in order to embrace something completely new. It is an opportunity that comes rarely and one that if used wisely can forever change the course of your life, allowing you a new awareness of self that does not come any other way.  I am currently experiencing a complete reset.   I have chosen this because on multiple levels the life I was living was no longer serving me. Patterns of behaviour, thought, and emotion were deeply embedded, and try as I might I was unable to shift them. For eleven years I have been going around in circles repeating the same cyclical motion, stuck in an orbit, a gravitational pull that would not allow me to significantly change course.
It was the awareness that if I could not break this pattern I would end up stuck in it for the rest of my life that finally gave me the impetus to get free.  I’m two months into my new reality and the self awareness is returning. Initially all the old behaviours, thoughts and emotions remained. “Wherever you go there you are” and simply changing environment does not guarantee changes in yourself. As the saying goes, moving to a cave in the mountains will not make you a guru. However, there’s a higher chance of gaining self awareness if you do something radically different for a time, and self awareness when combined with new behaviours is the only way to create a new person.  At this point I can get defensive. I defend my old patterns of destructive behaviour - my ego does not like to grow up. At points when my wife speaks truth to me about the pain I am causing myself and others I react and respond in the old ways. Like a snake shedding its skin or a hermit crab outgrowing its shell things get very uncomfortable, and I cling to the old. Move through this painful transition and suddenly the old is repulsive, dead, clinging like a scab over the shiny new skin beneath.
I want to let it go.  Making it to this point of self awareness, being willing to face it, and then let it go takes time, introspection, honest conversation, and a completely new environment. At least this is the case for me. Too busy, too short, not a complete break, it doesn’t work. A holiday cannot provide me this, nor can a long weekend. The knowledge that I will shortly return to my life blocks me from facing the reality of what isn’t working. I’m too embedded. The only option is a full reset.  In this case it was the desire for materialistic success that was holding me back. Clinging to my stuff and my old identity I became bound by it, by the belief that I must build up material goods and prove myself as a man to those who know me best. Letting go of it all was stressful, challenging and liberating.   Now with only a bag of clothes, some basic tech, and my loved ones, the sense of self is returning. My nervous system has relaxed and I can see that what my family really need from me is my love, time, presence and support.  I could not see this because I was stuck.
How many others are also stuck, chasing the things that make them unhappy, repeating the same behaviours, thoughts and emotional outbursts without the awareness to understand why it’s not working?  How many people could do with a complete reset, a Jubilee, a fresh start?  It’s not easy, and you have to sacrifice a lot in the short term to pull it off, but what you gain is priceless.

I guess my perspective is greatly influenced by USD price because price is where I’m having to live. Food, accommodation and transport are all priced in dollars and so when dollar value drops in my world I’m feeling the losses.
Certainly don’t expect it to follow my whims. I think it just makes me realise if I’m finding it hard, and I have conviction. Others with less conviction will find it even harder to manage.
It’s a good test. I can still smile about it 😀

The volatility of Bitcoin price becomes an actual issue when you spend it. It’s fine for the long term hodling, but spending it (in my case for travelling with my family) can be a roller coaster.
Smaller amounts isn’t such a issue but larger spends you can notice a major loss of purchasing power over a short window.
I have no doubt that this factor is affecting the medium of exchange adoption.

We are suffering from a spiritual crisis. A crisis of deeper meaning and loss of the vibrancy of The Spirit.
Not for the first time a spiritual darkness has fallen on the West. We have lost touch with the subtle life force we call God and have exchanged connection with it for an obsession with our own image.
Much as in the story of Lucifers fall from heaven it is pride in ourselves that has become our great delusion. We gaze into the virtual world for meaning and acceptance, forever looking outwards for approval rather than within ourselves for the purpose our souls seek.
We cannot evolve beyond the continuous cycle of suffering and pain if we remain obsessed with gaining social approval and material abundance.
It has become more important to be liked than to be real.

If they are yelling it’s emotional. The idea of an echo chamber within community is very real. I’ve been exposed to many of them and though they are indeed community they commonly end up with the lot of agreement over the same ideas. Not a bad thing but certainly off putting to those coming in with contrary points of view. All religion tends to end up in such a place. Small discrepancies of view over minor issues but the core tenets are all agreed upon. To be in the community it requires this agreement. It’s neither good or bad, it’s simply insular.

I could not agree more. This is the reason I avoided Nostr till this point. Concerns over concentration of similar ideas.
Without the diversity of opinion we end up with a little echo chamber of back slapping that looks like a cult to anyone coming in from the outside.
For Nostr to thrive it must be embraced by a wide demographic.

I’m on a quest for empirical understanding of the World as it is.
For a life philosophy that is embracing, open and inclusive, for me and my family.

It’s easy being from a place like New Zealand 🇳🇿 to make theoretical judgments from afar.
It’s another thing all together to see it with your own eyes 👀, feel it in your body, and watch it in your finances.
Many people are struggling and a few others are thriving. The gap between them is clearly increasing.
There is more to buy and less able to buy it.
There are more opportunities for abundant health and less having it.
There are more ways to connect and less people taking them.
The world is going through a divide and it’s more than the wealth gap.
It’s a health, happiness, purpose, intelligence and opportunities gap and it is growing fast.
It’s everywhere if you want to see it and I’m seeing it in the most abundant places on earth.

If it’s this bad here how bad is it where the opportunities are not?
Everyone knows it’s not working but no one wants to bet on an answer anymore.
I have my ideas 💡 but it’s too early to say.

Fear is the ultimate enemy.
Defeat it and win a life of endless possibilities.
Let it defeat you and remain a psychological embryo, half formed and underdeveloped, unable to reach your potential for a full life.  Fear is within, NOT without.
 The enemy is the fear of the unknown and unfamiliar, of change, and of realising our own greatness. The fear of social scorn, of missing out, of failing and taking risks.
It is fear born of the mind, devoid of reality and detached from the physical realm.   Fears based on actual threats to our physical body are acute, occasional, and grounded in a tangible concern we must physically avoid. This kind of fear can be managed and it is NOT the enemy we must defeat.   It is the fear of what could be, NOT what is, that cripples us.  By taking less risks; avoiding raising families, having holidays over adventures, missing golden opportunities, choosing comfort over growth, doubting our ability to love and be loved, and ignoring the inevitability of death - that which gives life its urgency and meaning is missed.
We allow others to tell us how to act, make decisions on our behalf, and dictate our behaviours all because we are afraid, afraid to live.
If COVID showed us anything it is that people can be manipulated to behave in unusual ways all through perceived fear.
Fear is a tool used by the powerful to control the weak but the powerful are NOT the enemy. They simply understand the power of fear to coerce.   To disarm them we must face our fears. Then they have no power over us.  When we realise that fear is a feeling and that sensations do not have to dictate our thoughts and actions we begin claiming back the power to create our own life.
Feeling the fear and pushing through it is a process that strengthens over time. Fear can become, rather than a barrier to growth, a hurdle to leap over.   Fear can motivate us to act, for it is action that breaks the power of fear.  As the fears of the mind weaken our capacity to handle perceived danger increases. We become bold and our courage empowers us to dream bigger, to expand our realm of possibility, and to think and act on our own terms.  Win one battle over fear, soon many battles, and eventually the war. No longer can the insidious doubts and anxieties of the mind prevent us from standing in our truth and we become whole.
We have moved from a psychological embryo to a fully formed body-mind capable of creating and living out an authentic existence.  No one is blocking us from living a life of love, wholeness, authenticity and abundance.  Our fear is.  When will you overcome it?

At the core of the system we have created is control.
We created it over millennia to manage the impulsive behaviour that is innate in us.
To manage our wildness and our baser instincts.
In exchange we are safer than ever before and the price we pay is our aliveness.
Railing against the system of control from our place within it we say we want freedom will simultaneously exerting control over others in all areas of our life.
We love control because it gives us a sense of security, safety and power.
Those souls who relinquish all control of others are doomed to be controlled themselves and those who do not control even their own impulses soon face the collective judgment of society.
The toddler knows no self control yet simultaneously seeks to control others. Hence we exercise parental control in order to modify the wilful child’s behaviours to make them socially acceptable.
School is a control system, as is a job. Government is control but so is every business with employees.
Control runs our world.
To change the system requires the relinquishing of control. To do so safely we would have to give up the things that we so badly desire. Power, money and materialism. We would have to want different things.
To want different things is to live in a higher state of consciousness. It’s a change in the human condition, a radical shift in our psychology away from accumulation, extraction and control to connection, community, creation and surrender.
The change is mental, emotional and spiritual. The change begins within.
