@npub1g0t…tvm4 yeah it's a good question. I suspect they'll come into force. Most people won't notice or know about it. Also as some food prices begin to drift back down, the extra costs may not be noticed. And tories know that any hint of labour suggesting their postponement or renegotiation will be pitched as non patriotic, etc....
The country has got itself into a terrible bond, where it is politically unpalatable to object to self inflicting pain policies. #Brexit

@npub1g0t…tvm4 don't argue against that but the bigger problem, personally, is that in that time the wait lists have risen. So in effect supply has not kept up with increased demand. That needs something not really being discussed :a concerted analysis of possible solutions, whether that includes private sector or not. And the solution is probably not just throwing more money at it, as some is workforce limitations.

If you accept the current situation is unwinnable, how do you guarantee any labour government success in the next 5 years has highest probability of also been seen as a failure, accelerating return to govt.

@npub1hpc…hjn3 there are many issues with UK first past the post system, but you can see the flipside problems of alternatives here. The deals of who forms a government happen after the election. And on this occasion, the 5% threshold keeping far right away is good, but also feels a slightly arbitrary cutoff.

Maybe a controversial view, but GB News are gaming this issue to actually gain more viewers. Sack a few presenters to look moderate and with standards, but still gain eyeballs through this news coverage exposure, and then snare people into their conspiracy theory stories etc...

Perhaps back to use of websites / blogs / newsletters, with #twitter / #X, #fediverse and #threads being considered more as distribution platforms rather than places for content creation.

@npub1hpc…hjn3 @npub1vjh…s57p yes, i agree with you both. I wasn't saying rejoining is what will / should realistically happen now, just pointing out the disconnect that one has to pretend that it is an actively bad option.
In the end, I share your thoughts. It'll be an inching closer together but i don't think rejoining will actually ever happen, including single market / customs union in name. Instead a number of deals will generate an equivalent "bespoke" solution, sold as a win-win for both sides.

@npub1hpc…hjn3 @npub18yl…pegw this is a very good point - the interesting thing is where the new wave of journalists go to - many will follow and continue using twitter for same reasons as their seniors do. But something else will pop up, in a way like Substack has created / and packaged a new form of content distribution (this is not an argument saying that it is better, just that it's now an established alternative platform)

@npub1rh0…sjsf I have used this quite a bit. Works v v nicely. The only thing is that its compose function is not great - you can't just copy paste images in (I think) and also does not predict hashtags like other mastodon clients do (you have to type them all out, but upgrading to premium stores hashtags).
Phone apps, as @npub1wh8…68t4 indicated, also allow #scheduling v well - e.g. @npub1ehd…udlw @npub1t9t…td57
But @npub1dct…c9eh remains the best desktop solution to scheduling on #Mastodon , personally. #FediTips

@npub1ehd…udlw I'm regularly having an issue whereby the app crashes when composing a new message. Thankfully a near recent draft is saved so I can carry on where I left off, but I'll admit it's a bit annoying.
Only unifying observation is that it happens when composing long-ish posts with a lot of hashtags. Could this be a reason / has it been observed by others too? Thank you.

In a strange way Ukraine are victims of their lightning progress in Kharkiv last year I think, creating a sense that Russian defences are liable to suddenly folding. In fact things are clearly v different now.

@npub1ntq…rg38 sadly I will never forget the phase pre lockdown wheb we were screening and scrambling to admit and contain a handful of cases, whilst life and #SarsCoV2 community transmission continued as normal.
Working so hard before the full #COVID19 onslaught had even begun!
Certainly unforgettable, if not exactly enjoyable. A lot of personal and family concerns at the time.

Yes I suspect the key to the election for Labour is to hold back as much as possible. The later you make a move, harder it is for government to announce a counter policy
Yesterday classic example, one clear labour policy now countered by the opposite, and then you're left defending old policy.
It's best to be the last to make a move at the moment, especially as there's little money for grand giveaways or visions.
