I wasn't saying rejoining is what will / should realistically happen now, just pointing out the disconnect that one has to pretend that it is an actively bad option.
In the end, I share your thoughts. It'll be an inching closer together but i don't think rejoining will actually ever happen, including single market / customs union in name. Instead a number of deals will generate an equivalent "bespoke" solution, sold as a win-win for both sides.
