Are you still able to use Bitpay? I don’t know what happened but I can’t use it anymore without KYC, no matter how often I clear my cache or change IPs. Had to abandon Namecheap and Shipito as a result.

Yeah I love the map! Wherever I go I tend to maintain it, and on my trips to the US that always meant deleting merchants. You can see that cities I visited recently show no more merchants. That’s what makes me think there are none in other areas too. As there are no Bitcoin users, there are also no BTCMap maintainers there and the map looks the way it does

Those numbers are useless, most of the US locations are ATMs, others are out of date, spam or simply outdated. At maximum, a large US city has two to three places that take sats. SF, LA, Seattle, Chicago for example all have at most two places, cumulative

For the second time this year I made a credit card payment and I’m shocked how bad the UX has gotten:
- Enter card details and address
- Get redirected to 2FA portal
- Log into bank website (requires 2FA SMS)
- Obtain “secure code,” which requires a 2nd 2FA SMS
- Enter secure code into 2FA portal
- Obtain 3rd 2FA SMS, enter into portal
- Payment confirmed, receive confirmation SMS
At this point I suspect banks are even making it easier for scammers, as they patiently walk you through this kafkaesk security theater.
That Lightning isn’t available as an online payment even for high-risk transactions should make you seriously doubt yourself, Bitcoin and the world around you.

I do need enough to meet the minimum requirements for channels, practically speaking that’s probably 100k sats per channel. I am open to the idea of permissioned public testing networks, where I pay for “cycles” in the form of coins.

Being able to perform swaps with other providers on existing infrastructure is a great benefit, no? I can’t run all swap services on my local network and also one day hope to be able to interact with RGB channels. Having to spin up a new node, acquire coins and open channels for each system i might interact with feels cumbersome and wasteful. I desire a “common” testnet Lightning Network

LL will have to make the decision where to move testing infrastructure to, but from this conversation it doesn’t sound like testnet3/4 have a future or is run with expectations that are compatible with what we need in the long run. Having a network that allows for connectivity with people testing other implementations and services (LSPs, swap providers, payment processors) on the same network is important though. Paying a tiny amount for testing is fine though from my perspective. Test/signet coins are API tokens, aren’t they?

All my testing is done with others, both onchain and offchain, inside and outside LL, mostly asynchronously. I can also tell from my LNBits instance that others are using my node to send sats to and from their wallets/nodes. It’s true that testnet3 liquidity is bad, and since testnet3 has been attacked many nodes fell off the network.

I’m using testnet3 a lot for Lightning Network and Taproot Asset testing. I run an LNBits testnet node too and as of today, I’m fully on testnet3. My node has trouble keeping up but testnet4 won’t be as useful for me for a while.

Reset how? The block reward? We should generally avoid moving to new testnets, as we can’t expect people to move their infrastructure. It will take a year or more for a testnet Lightning Network to emerge in significant size and functionality, and many services might never move over, like 1ML

I did notice that testnet4 appeared to be intentionally premined. It’s still correctable though, we have about 150,000 blocks to take out the halvings. 50tBTC forever per block, that way we won’t have to worry about this ever getting a significant price. Begging for coins is not an acceptable way to distribute these resources
