How it works where I live is -
1)people protest some horrible shit perpetrated by a corporation
2) the corp gets a court injunction to stop the protests
3) so then when people continue to protest, the charge is now contempt of court and not the original reason for the protest which cannot be used in defence of their actions.
Is this how it works everywhere?.

Yes. Notable that the CPC did not call for his resignation. Poilievre asked Rota in the HoC a couple of days ago if he was taking the fall on behalf of the Libs. Too bad Geoff Regan - the one the CPC didn't want -is not still around to replace him.
