File management: Thunar is really good for handling files and folders with lots of images. Nemo tries to be helpful but struggles, I think because it tries to assemble data and statistics on file and folder contents on the fly, before you open them. It just gets bogged down.
So if you are finding simple file management of your photo archive on Linux to be a pain recommend giving Thunar a shot.

Not having a good time recently with image software on Linux.
Having got exiftool up and working I was feeling pretty good but things have definitely veered in a discouraging direction.
TLDR: no luck so far finding a simple fast imageviewer or a digital asset management solution. 1/n

That's a pity - just found out that Visual Science Lab (a very long running photography blog) shuttered yesterday - not just no longer updated, completely removed. I wish it had been left up tbh, not paved over. There was a lot of really great thinking in there.
