@npub1j46…3gm7 I agree. I mainly see the disparaging kind, though, and mainly among people who reassure each other that they are "not like visual design people" and suggesting that UX or IT in general has become "shallow" or "superficial".
If we want to tackle this as a discipline, we should have an understanding who focuses on visual design and why (It does not seem to come from inside the discipline, looking at conferences, publications and social media).

- Had too many "Priorization is taking away user freedom" discussions in that clash of thinking styles
- related: priorization is also less of a problem on command line programs, there, options/features do not take screen space.
- interestingly, when one goes to software architecture, programming becomes very design-like.

Maybe a combination of:
- Design being an auxillary role; (you can create software without a designer, but not without a developer) and not with some state-mandated regulatory enforcement.
- Job market, indeed. There are not many people coming from UX-in-particular education, and IT pays better than graphic design, I guess?

Yes, I that makes sense. Big companies allow to work with many other professionals of the same discipline allowing "not selling out" or, "staying pure"; thus it is also that prestigeous roles are in big companies (or famous, specialized agencies)

Yes, the "seat at the table"-discussion is interesting.
- might be a conflict with very powerful developers; designer cooperating with management and thus securing their positions, since they have not the protection (producing software, esoteric tools) that devs have
- Might also be part of the general push to management-ification of UX to gain more prestigeous roles (see Professional Regression article)

- I often heard the sentence "I don't create [buttons/layouts…] I create [experiences]" (and said it myself)
- In most cases it seems to paid lower (but maybe only in Germany?)
- rejection of "portfolio" design, asking for management/consulting-like deliverables instead

At least Grudin ("From Tool to Partner") pins the focus on visual design on Apple-under-Jobs success of "Design without Usability Engineering". The discipline itself might have done their share of damage by framing UI as low prestige field.
I also see "experience" as problematic; it’s a messy term that tries to expand the prefession’s reach without the necessary methods and power to defend that area. (https://www.fordes.de/posts/professionalRegressionUX.html)
