@nprofile…zwug This is a nice article and summary! I like that you included all the little expenses that might be negligible compared to the big numbers, but are really important (like inviting people to celebrate with you 🥳).
However, the calculation of potential income is a bit off, at least from my point of view. In my field, most people had half a budget position at an institute, which is about the same as a scholarship. But if you have a scholarship, most people need an additional 25% position at the institute (because of health insurance) or they had a 75% or even 100% position outright.
On the other hand, the amount of work you have to put into a thesis is not comparable to a normal job. I estimate that I worked between 60 and 80 hours a week. If I'd been self-employed, the potential income would have been much higher.
Still, it's a funny way to think about your PhD time 😁

A few days ago I installed the snow addon developed by @nprofile…jpfa and I'm really enjoying it! It gave me the cozy winter vibes that I was missing last week due to the lack of snow in southern Germany. ❄️
This gave me another idea: Why not use it for a confetti effect to celebrate something? For example, why not celebrate the day a user joined the instance each year? 🎊
Most of the code was written by @nprofile…jpfa, I only had to make minor changes. The confetti only appears when you are logged in, and I tried to keep it as unobtrusive as possible. It is also turned off when the reduced motion setting is used:

@npub1g53…v0hh I can see the benefits of VR sculpting, but I do not like the amount of expensive tech you need (headset, joysticks, even more powerful CPU and GPU...).
A very skilled artist who does a lot of 6DOF and VR modelling is Martin Nebelong:
