OK, so, I'm watching the pilot ep for M*A*S*H and already hit two jokes that are 😬 This was my concern - I hated the film M*A*S*H, but was obsessed with the TV series from S4 onwards (Trapper leaves, shortly that after Frank leaves, Honeycut and Potter arrive, and (in S5, I think?) we get Charles, who's a much richer character than Frank). I fear that the earlier on it is the more the 'black' humour is just 😬 and still stuck in the somewhat bigotted humour of the film.

Thinking a lot lately about how we forgot about the 1918 flu because it never appeared in any of our preserved media.
Whether we like it or not, history is more often preserved in popular literature (whatever form that takes) than in the classroom.
By not recording the real, ongoing impact of the pandemic on our daily lives, we are doomed to repeat it.
It may have started as an attempt to avoid trauma, but now it is part of the propaganda machine.

My God, the size of the houses in these 80s and 90s US films. Jaw-dropping. I thought the same watching Home Alone. (Am watching Planes, Trains, and Automobiles)
I know US homes are generally bigger, but this is something else. And it's before the whole McMansion thing, so presumably these are decently made houses.
Is it just expressive of the aspirational nature of the period, or am I meant to think these are rich dicks?

My God, where to start?
How about the idea that you have to write only one type of thing to be successful and target your 'niche'. My favourite authors write cross-genre and I will too!
Or that you MUST read enough recent books to find at least two similar enough to your own to be comps. It's deeply ableist.
I am well-read. I have a fucking Eng Lit degree. I'm also fucking SICK. I'm lucky if I finish one book a year!>

@npub1ul2…5sjq if you were just exposed but don't have a positive test or any of the key symptoms (loss of taste or smell, persistent cough, fever) I would panic just yet, though. Continue to test for a few days, but if you have no new symptoms you may be fine (within your usual parameters of fine).

@npub1ul2…5sjq yeah, I had COVID in April 2020. It was awful. For a long time I thought my slow recovery was because of the ME/CFS - I'd been told it takes 4 times longer to recover from any illness, and recovery time from COVID was an unknown, and work pressured me back too soon, so I wasn't surprised that my ME/CFS symptoms continued to be high long after, but I'm now pretty sure I have Long COVID too.
What do you want to know?
