I’m simply saying that unless consensus is achieved then anything else is just trying to cure cancer with bandaid
DDoS is not consensus.. simply an obvious local protection that whoever runs nodes would want to have
Maybe wrong about ctv and if there is consensus then that’s where discussion should be and together with that then we can all review if having that data in op returns make sense
That said, if we use bitcoin enough we can price out all that garbage… if we enable more use cases like ctv then base layer would simply be expensive for garbage and there would be incentives for them to do it on second layers

Thinking that with bunch of raspberries running non consensus set of filters you can enforce new rules is another attack and luckily bitcoin can resist to it
DDoS attack you can spin up thousands of nodes without it and still bitcoin will resist ..
So in the end.. consensus or exit
Everything else is irrelevant
And by the way, the same people who dislikes op_return are opposed to op_ctv, op_cat etc
Should they have agreed with it, we wouldn’t be having this op_return debate and all the jpegs and stuff would live in other layers

And in fact this is very important because otherwise someone can come with 50 thousand raspberries and run a new version of core forcing rules that we may not have agreed with

I can argue that it’s the other way around
1- having only one implementation made us get confused between what is consensus vs what is just an implementation spec. To a point that Core Devs can actually filter/control certain behaviors despite that not being in the consensus. Core is also somehow ruling what is going to be added even for future soft forks
2- with more implementations if one has a bug others will resist. Having only one implementation if there is a critical bug it’ll affect everybody
So I’m in favor of having more diversity of opinions and software is somehow an opinion here

Starting to think that Spark has an opportunity to simplify most wallets UX
Given the complexity of setting up a self custodial lighting wallet, most of us ended up using custodial ones but with spark you can have something very close to self custody while keeping ux ultra simple so it’ll be much better than using a custodial one
Looking forward to seeing how it evolves

so shorterm hashrate sudden increases may mean something, long term hashrate growth is meaningless unless you factor it out with overal average hashrate improvements
I think is best if you run the numbers dividing hashrate by the average consumption per terahash you estimate the network has.

Is hashrate a relevant metric to measure Network's Strengh?
I think is not but interested in hearing counter arguments here
Why Not?
- Because the only real thing that matters is how much money an adversary would need to attack the network and that is measured in terms of money needed on electricty and hardware plus infra
- Hashrate will continue to grow even if the network total strengh goes down. One of the latest AntMiners is capable of producing 10X or even more than previous versions of antminers so if I see hashrate going up 10x may simply mean that I have replaced equipement without having spent more money to support the network

man, when I started with my first computer, a 100mb drive was like the largest I could ever dream of... so disk space would definitively not be a great proxy.
but if you really really think Hashrate is a great proxy then we can pause here becuase it looks like we think of math very differently.

if you read carefully what I mean behind that expression you would understand.
Hashrate is definitively a very vague proxy for total network power. In the end what you want to know is how much mony an adversary would need to attack your network
with 5,5kw today you can easily produce 580Thash/s with the upcoming Antminer
with an Antminer S9 from the past you would produce 10% of that hashrate with the same electricity
it means that overtime, without increasing the dollar amount spent on the network you would have seen a 10X increase in hashrate with people all over twitter claiming that we are doing ATH and that the network is more secure
but is just simple math.. the network is secured by electricty/hardrware/infrastructure. Whoever joins now as an adversary will have access to equipment that is very efficient so it's all about the money spent on those elements.. hashrate is a side effect

one question here @nprofile…5eze ... are there strategies or debates about Mint resiliense?
for instance: if you use USDT it's clear, you depend on Tether and even if the blockchain continues to run... if any government attacks tether then your USDT's will vanish....
that said, with Mints you have one other attack vector that is the mint. if the mint is down then the network stops... but if you have any reference material to read out options that would be good

You can bet on demand growing or price growing to 20-30 million
I’d rather add few other things that I believe would be great for bitcoin and that can increase chances of having stronger block space demand

Hashrate follows “dollar per block” and not price
In few halving, no matter how big the price is, dollars per block will be significantly reduced unless we get a surge of onchain demand (so far that doesn’t look to be the case) hence enabling trustless bridges will create bigger demand on block which will utilmately generate more dollars per block so hashrate will follow

Why don’t we enable extra block space only to be used for the necessary scripting needed to support L2?
That way we could:
- continue having space for L1 transactions unaffected
- continue having nodes that only check l1 if they want to
- extra space would provide dedicated block market to increase security budget
Currently we are making below 2k usd on frees… it’ll need to go up to 15million per bitcoin to support current revenue per block
Pretty sure we will hit that value one day but even if we do, it may still fall short on revenue per block so finding newer revenue sources cannot be underestimated and what I’m suggesting would give bitcoin added features through other layers

i think from privacy perspective having cashu able to exchange USDT equivalent tokens would make it amazing and worth going through the hurdle of having multiple mints.
maybe ... a descentralizad stable coin that can't be blocked could do it... there is Money on Chain on RSK that has Dollar on Chain ... imagine porting those dollars into cashu equivalent... having Money on Chain running a mint...

kinda like cashu, I installed it on two different apps and started moving money around. I do see the potential there where we own the money, private etc... yet I'm struggling to understand what would make it a real alternative for regular users
@nprofile…j6zy can the protocol be extended to support for instance USDT on Cashu? if that's the case then.. having the possibility to exchange P2P BTC with USDT on Cashu privately could make it powerful
for pure btc only, given that you would only have a fraction of pocket money on cashu as mints are centralized, I see complex having money from so many mints even if there is cross mint swaps. but if you add stuff like bringing USDT on cashu then I think it becomes more interesting
